An organism that makes its own food
What is a producer
What word means two animals that interact in a way that benefits both?
What is mutualism
What do all food chains start with?
What is the sun
What is an organism that's eats a producer or another consumer to get food?
What is a consumer
All living and nonliving things in an environment make up an __________.
What is an ecosystem
An organism that breaks down the remains of dead animals
What is a decomposer?
What is the definition of parasitism?
Two organisms that interact in a way that benefits one and harms the other
What shows the path of food energy in an ecosystem?
A food chain
What is an example of an abiotic fact in an ecosystem?
Soil, water, air
Organisms that get energy by eating only other animals are called ________.
What is a carnivore.
All of the organisms of the same kind that live in an ecosystem
What is population
What is an example of parasitism and mutualism?
Parasitism: tick/deer, snail/parasitic worm
Mutualism: bee/flower, zebra/ostrich
Name three producers
Flowers, grass, trees
Which animal is an example of an omnivore?
frog
tiger
raccoon
Racoon
All the living things in the environment such as plants and animals are called ________.
What is abiotic factors
What is the definition of abiotic factor and biotic factor?
An abiotic factor is a nonliving part of an ecosystem
A biotic factor is a living part of an ecosystem
What is the definition of predation? Give an example of predation also.
Predation is when one organism kills and consumes the other
Ex: wolf/deer
Tell me what each of these plants and animals are in a food chain. (ex: producer, consumer)
sun-flower-bunny-wolfproducer, consumer, secondary consumer
Explain how you know the energy in animals was once energy from the sun.
The sun is the beginning of every food chain, so in order for anything to grow or begin, the sun has to start it. Once the sun helps the producer grow, a consumer eats to producer, which started from the sun. If a secondary consumer eats that consumer, it is still getting energy from the sun because the consumer it ate got it's energy from the sun.
A network of food chains that have links in common are called ______.
What is a food web
What is the definition of mutualism and commensalism?
Mutualism is two organisms that interact in a way that benefits both
Commensalism is two organisms that interact in a way that benefit one but does not harm the other
Barnacles gown on the back of a whale. They gain a home and the whale is NOT harmed. What is this an example of?
What is commensalism
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web?
A food chain is where one living thing passes to another where a food web is a bunch of food chains in a habitat or ecosystem
A strip of land is cleared to make way for a housing development. How might this affect birds and other animals living in the forest ecosystem?
If trees are cut down, birds will not have a place to live. Squirrels may also be affected as well.
This diagram shows the amount of energy available when moving from one level to another is called __________.
What is an energy pyramid
