What is the difference between policies and legislation?

Legislation- Set of rules and laws determined by the government.

Policy- A set of principles of a course of action or proposed. It is adopted by an organisation or an individual in order to achieve rational goals.

Describe the two most significant needs for youth.

1. Health- Significant period of physical, social, emotional growth which in tern affects health. Physically, youth need to meet the demands of a developing body and mind through lifestyles choices. High rates of obesity, Due to self discovery and search for identity risk taking behaviours can have consequences that adversely affect their health- physically, socially, emotionally.

2. Education essential as it allows knowledge and skills to be developed in all areas of life. Youth move from dependence to independence and need to develop knowledge on how to live independently- education with directly link them to employment pathways to support their economic wellbeing and allows them to be independent in maintaining adequate standard of living.

Explain how positive and negative terminology used to describe People with a Disability can impact on the wellbeing of people living with a disability.

Positive- person first disability second e.g. "A person who uses a wheelchair", "A person who is visually impaired". Impact- Self identity, not restricted by their disability but seen as a person foremost. The positive terminology is more inclusive which support an individuals emotional and social wellbeing. 


Negative- Cripple, disabled person, dumb. Paints the person in a negative light. It creates limits and they may be treated differently by the community. This negatively impacts their social and emotional wellbeing as they feel they do. ot belong, are treated differently, it may limit the friendships they make and inclusions in social activities.

Youth Off The Streets

Age- Service is accessible to Youth aged 12-25 years and operates under a Children and Youth safety framework. Youth specific services, events and support- Counselling, Education options, youth workers, crisis accomodation.

Culture- All areas of the service are directed by members of the cultural support team. Cultural specific case workers, interpreters, and community based programs. This service is culturally appealing to Youth at risk or in need of support. 

Level of education- Current enrolment in education will create a direct ink to this service. Many students can be linked in to Youth of The Streets through their school, tafe, university.

The racial discrimination act 1977, is an Australian Law that states it is illegal to discriminate towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and other groups of people. Enhancing equal access to employment, education and services. This creates a positive social environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by ensuring their needs of safety and security, employment, education and sense of identity are met, supporting their social, cultural and economic wellbeing.

  • The event affirms the cultural identity of the group establishing strong ancestral bonds and learning more about their First Nations cultures and histories, the oldest continuous living cultures on earth. Strengthening emotional and Spiritual wellbeing.
