Why is vanity dangerous?
He who is vain and delights in his own ability is deceived by his inferiors. When he likes to bring forth arguments and kindliness, his inferiors take advantage of his abilities.
Why is it important to ask questions?
The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.
What does being idle (inactive) cause?
"To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life. Foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent."
How do you earn the respect of others?
When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.
What does an intelligent ruler value?
The intelligent ruler does not value people who are of themselves good without rewards and punishments. Why is that? The laws of the state cannot be neglected, and it is not one man who is being ruled.
What kind of work should people do?
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

“Conquer anger with non-anger. Conquer badness with goodness. Conquer meanness with generosity.”
What makes a good traveler?
A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
How does a ruler achieve a well ordered state?
If a ruler can get rid of private crookedness and promote the public law, his people will become secure, and his state will become well ordered.
Does anyone know everything?
He who knows all the answers has not been asked all the questions.

“Nothing can harm you as much as your own thoughts unguarded.”
What’s the differnce between being strong and mighty?
He who conquers others is strong; he who conquers himself is mighty.
How does a ruler end vices in his people?
If a ruler of men wants to put an end to vice (bad habits), he must examine the correspondence between form and names to see how what is said differs from what is done.
What do you need to practice for people to want to be around you?
Virtue is not left to stand alone. He who practices it will have neighbors.
What is the mind like that has no desire?
"There is no fear for one whose mind is not filled with desires."
How should people view their lives and the world?
Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realise there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.
What is the purpose of principles in government?
The ruler who possesses methods of government does not follow the good that happens by chance but practices according to necessary principles. Law, methods, and power must be employed for government: these constitute its 'necessary principles.
How do you get respect?
Respect yourself and others will respect you.
