List the steps a lockdown will include. 

All lockdowns will include:

  • Waiting for first responders to open door, or for the public/page announcement: “The Lockdown has been lifted” Followed by specific directions

  • Teachers take attendance and account for missing students by contacting the main office.

Explain the test to stay protocol.

Gather date of first symptoms and confirmed diagnosis.

Compile a list of close contacts.

Ask the person who tested positive to isolate for 5 days and, upon return, wear a mask for 5 days.

Close contacts are sent home with a covid test kit as part of the Test to Stay Program:

Close contacts must test that day, submit a negative test result to return the next day, then retest on Day 5 and submit a negative test result.

Close contacts can continue coming to the building as long as both tests are negative and no symptoms develop.

Information will be documented and shared with Managing Ops Director, Principal, HR (if applicable), and close contacts.

Route B: Everyone located in rooms 401-417 should use stairwell O to exit onto First Avenue, proceed to Wagner Playground behind the school.

Route C: Everyone located in rooms 434-439 should use stairwell F to exit onto First Avenue, proceed towards Wagner Playground and 2nd avenue.

What is the difference between a shelter in and a lock-down?

A shelter in happens when there is a threat outside of the building. Although no one is allowed into or out of the building, it is business as usual.

How does East Middle handle suspected positive COVID cases?

Students suspected of having COVID-19 awaiting transport home by the parent/guardian will be isolated in the Nurse's Office. The student must remain isolated until picked up or released to go home. The DoO will give the family instructions on quarantining or testing before the student may return to school.
