In what circumstances is a physician order required for nursing delegation?

Since RN delegation is defined as authorizing an unlicensed person to provide nursing services while retaining accountability for how the unlicensed person performs the task, the BON does not require RNs to obtain physician orders for RN delegation nor can a physician force an RN to delegate. The RN is accountable for the delegation process, therefore the decision to delegate belongs to the RN.
