Where do you add a person's name and/or phone number?

In NSMobile in the "contacts" tab

100

Can FIs do locating to find a phone number for an address in a locked building?

Locating activities will take place in the central office. Due to IT security protocols, interviewers should not search internet sites for specific respondent contact information, however you may use google or other search engines to determine a PROVIDER'S phone number.

100

What is the difference between a Unlisted Home based provider and a Listed Home based provider?

Unlisted - are discovered as we screen households. Listed home based providers are from a list.

100

Can we leave a message on a ring doorbell?

Yes, it is a good idea to leave a message on a ring doorbell to let them know who you are, why you are visiting, and that you may return. You can also hold your badge up to the camera.

200

Which two questionnaires could result from a HH screener?

HH questionnaire and UHB questionnaire

200
Name at least three things you should add to a ROC.

Who, when, what transpired. Should only be factual information. Indicate a first name (full names, phone numbers, email addresses should be in the contacts tab). Include information that would help you or another interviewer work the case, but otherwise keep it short.  Details like people’s names, good or bad times to approach, information about approaching the address physically, and questions or concerns mentioned by the respondent are especially helpful.

200

TRUE or FALSE: Some parts of the questionnaire seem repetitive, especially in the calendar section so if the respondent is becoming anxious, it's OK to skip some of those questions.

FALSE -

  • The     questions are there because we have asked them if their day is essentially     the same and we’re confirming that the days were completely identical.     We’re essentially asking them to verify that they mean absolutely the     same, not approximately the same. Ideally, you would handle this by     reading the “if needed” portion only on the first question and then     leaving it out after that.
200

True or False:

Generally anyone who works at the center or is volunteering in their office/ front desk is able to serve as the screener respondent.

True - though this person who does the screener may not be the person to complete the interview.

200

What if we go to a house and there is a no trespassing sign and a huge mean dog. Do we go in?

We always want you to be safe and to use your common sense.  In this case, you may not want to go in without observing the situation.  If you are unable to approach the household, we ask you to indicate that the address is inaccessible in NS-Mobile.

300

What are the ways the HH questionnaire can be completed?

In person with R and on the phone with R. It is the only sample that CANNOT be completed on the web.
300

How do you disposition cases correctly such as visiting an address and no one lives there.

If no one is currently living in the HH, the case should be dispositioned as Vacant. For further clarification about dispositions, please consult your FI Manual starting on page 88.

300

TRUE or FALSE A child can be used as an interpreter due to a different language other than English or Spanish?

FALSE -

  • You may not ask a child to translate.
  • Any adult in the household can be a screener informant.  If no adult in the household is     knowledgeable and speaks either English or Spanish, we will code the case as a language barrier with information about the preferred language. We will make arrangements for additional languages depending on where cases are and what languages are being found in our sample.
300

If a Center or Listed Home Based provider’s name changes, can you still interview them?

Yes, the sampled unit is the street address, not the provider specifically. So, if the provider’s name changes or a new provider has moved in, whoever is occupying the address is appropriate to interview.

300

DOUBLE JEOPARDY!

What is the expiration date on gift card?

Can gift card be sent or given to someone else?

11/15/2025

Yes, the gift card can be spent by anyone who has it.

400

True or False:  if a 17 year old in the HH cares for the kids under 10 while parents are working, they are considered UHB.

False -

  • We are interviewing unlisted HB providers only if they are age 18 or older, due to rules on informed     consent for survey participants.  However, the household survey data     will capture this sibling care from teenagers.
400

DOUBLE JEOPARDY! Where do I find the information for a Center Based provider to complete the questionnaire online? AND where to find the amount for the incentive.

Both answers - on the summary tab. The incentive is the full amount included on the summary tab.

400

When should ROCs (or contact records) be entered?

Right after the contact - into NORCSuite in the notes tab. This is part of contacting and should be under the Production - contacting task in QuickBooks. ROCs should not be entered at the end of the night and not charged to admin. No provider or HH information should be written on paper.

400

TRUE or FALSE: FIs should keep the Center Base provider worksheet after the interview is complete in case CO has some questions later on.

FALSE - this document is to help the CB gather information for the interview if needed. The CB respondent should keep it and/or shred it.

400

Does the bus driver count as provider?

Maybe -

  • Respondents may differ in how they think about the school bus, depending on how long the child is on the bus.  If children are on the bus for quite a while, the respondent may report the bus driver as a provider. In other cases, if the child is on the bus for only 5 or 10 minutes, the parent may not see the bus driver as a provider and it is fine for the school bus not to be listed as a provider. However the parent sees the school bus is how we should record the bus time.
500

Is an "out of household" parent interviewed as a UHB?

NO - we want to specify any time that the child spends with anyone other than the parents (or their spouses/partners) in the sampled household.  So, an ‘out of household’ parent should be treated as a provider for the purpose of listing out the time the child spends when not with the parents in the sampled household.  The ‘out of household’ parent will appear in the drop-down for providers the same way that household members do.  There will be some different questions about this OOH parent compared with the questions for other kinds of providers.

500

What do the different icons represent in NORCSuite? The Star, Cloud with the green check, cloud with the orange arrow and triangle with the question mark.

A star next to a case means it’s a new case assigned to you or has new updates.

The cloud with a green check indicates there is no new info to send.

The cloud with an orange arrow means the case has new info to send.

The orange triangle with ? means a case didn’t sync properly.

500

Do we follow R’s if they move after screening? Or if CBs or LHBs have moved?

Maybe -

  • Please consult the help desk in this case. The procedure depends on where the new address is and which sample is involved.
500

When can we use email?

  • You may ONLY use the email button through NS-mobile. You may NOT contact respondents through your NORC email. You should consult your FM before emailing.

There are some specific initiatives that have resulted from the 2012 and 2019 studies. Name one.

  • NSECE     data have informed updates to the Head Start Performance Standards, the     re-authorization of the law that authorizes the child care subsidies, and     the child care portions of various pandemic era relief legislation such as     the CARES act and the American Rescue Plan Act. In addition, many states     have cited NSECE data in expanding their public pre-K programs or     developing workforce compensation policies.
