It meant that Egypt would have 7 years with good crops and lots of food, followed by seven years of famine.

Ruth went into the field of Boaz, one of Naomi's relatives. He listened with admiration to the story of how kind she had been to her mother-in-law. He also heard how she had left her parents and her native land to live among people whose customs were strange to her and how she had come to worship the one true God. Boaz eventually married Ruth, and they had a son named Obed, who became the father of Jesse, the father of David. It was from David that Jesus the Savior would come.

It was part of God's plan. He had to go to Egypt to store up food for the famine so that the chosen people wouldn't starve and would be able to live in Egypt.
