During the 19th century, the feline showed an increase in popularity, it’s domestic shorthair. Breeders began to selectively breed the dom shorthair giving them the american shorthair’s signature traits. In 1966, the American shorthair was named to differentiate them from their domestic counterparts. Which marked the birth of the official breed of the American shorthair.
