What is the SAT?

What is a transcript?
a type of college funding that's based on a student's achievements rather than their financial need.
What is a merit scholarship?
college-level coursework and exams for academically advanced high school students. Some colleges may grant college credit or placement based on the exam scores
What is AP (advanced placement)?
Hampton, Howard, Fayetteville State, Winston Salem State, NC A&T, Spelman, Morehouse
What are HBCUs?
the option to apply earlier than regular decision and get notified but not be bound to that college if admitted

What is first generation?
a program that allows students to earn money to help pay for college expenses by working part-time jobs while attending school
What is work study?
college entrance exam consisting of four components: English, math, reading, & science
What is the ACT?
Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn, Princeton, and Yale
What are Ivy League colleges?
A list of applicants who may or may not be offered admission to a school. They are neither rejected nor accepted.
Waht is waitlist?
An action that shows you want to attending a particular college. Examples include include a campus visit or virtual tour participation, having an initial interview, conversations with admission representatives, and applying for early admission.
What is demonstrated interest?
application used by many private colleges to award non-federal student aid
What is CSS profile?
Schools that do not consider standardized test scores at all
What is test blind?
an academic institution financed primarily by tuition and endowments--not the government
What is a private college/university?
An option to submit an application to your first-choice college before the regular deadline. You agree to enroll in the college immediately if admitted.
What is early decision?
A college applicant with a relative (usually a parent or grandparent) who graduated from that college
What is a legacy?
a test students take in 10th grade to qualify for National Merit Scholarships
What is the PSAT?
the average of your best scores from each subject from multiple test attempts.
What is superscoring/a superscore?
the main focus of your studies in college
What is your major?
a college or university that a student may have a low chance of getting into due to its acceptance rate, average test scores, or GPA.
What is a reach school?
An admission policy of considering each application as soon as all required information (such as high school records and test scores) has been received, rather than setting an application deadline and reviewing applications in a batch.
