Product Integrity and making sure product arrives exactly as it was loaded is something we take pride in. There are certain measure we take before every load we dispatch, like getting pitcures of a clean trailer showing an in-tact air chute with no hole or rips, pictures of temp sets to ensure the trailer is set on the correct temp, continuous setting, and the box temp is cooling down when we have our drivers pre-cool their trailers. All of this is done before releasing pick-up numbers.
Relate The bottom line is very important, but it causes more issues for you and your customers when product arrives late or damaged, and these measures we take for our customers has saved hundreds of dollars, and hours or headaches.

“We are all FOB?”

Disrupt – When I first got started with Starbucks, they were under contract with a few carriers and they used me as a way to price check their current rates and then they added me to their overflow list.
Ask – When is that next rfp coming and what can I do to be first on your overflow list?

JBS/Pilgrim’s Pride
JEAR as a company moves thousands loads every week, in all major markets US and Canada, so we are forced to keep a pulse on what is happening in the market so we can stay a step ahead. We also provide this information to our customers and prospects to keep them a step ahead, but also so they can also keep their customers ahead of the curve.
Relate I view myself as more than just a broker that gives updates and books trucks. I am your insight into what is happening in an ever-changing market.
Market Insight
Anchor – I imagine having your own trucks must make load coverage way easier.
Disrupt – I work with companies like Starbucks and Kroger, who also own their own trucks, and where I help is when they have lanes that have no backhauls, drivers get sick, or when trucks break down.
Ask – When there is an emergency load that needs to get covered, how do you select a carrier?
“WE HAVE OUR OWN TRUCKS?”
The person at the company who makes the decisions on which carriers they decide to use on their loads. Often referred to as “Transportation Manager” or “Logistics Manager” and this is who we should aspire to talk to when we make cold calls, but not necessary.

Supreme Berry Farms
We work with committed carriers who are loyal to us and our customers, which helps keep rates consistent and as low as possible. Therefore, on average, we have been able to show our customers 10-15% savings from the spot market, and even more on most of their contracted lanes. In some cases, our spot rates are $200-$800 lower than their contracted carriers.
Relate I understand we are both in a business, but I would like to quote a few of your lanes in order to see if I fit within your budget, but also fair to me and my quality carriers.
Pricing
Anchor – 10-4, I totally get it. Working with Asset’s is not only cost effective, but it also allows a great line of communication to your trucks.
Disrupt – Some of my customers started out telling me that they too preferred asset based companies, but I ended up winning some of their business by offering competitve rates, and better service.
Ask – When it comes to selecting a truck, do you typically look for price first or service?
“WE ONLY USE ASSETS?”

These carriers are rated internally in our TMS system called JEARnet, for KPIs like on-time percentage, lanes hauled for JEAR, types of commodities they have moved for us, general pricing for those lanes, and # of trucks and drivers (teams and solos) each has on average.
Relate When you give a load to JEAR, you can rest easy knowing our system assigns specific carriers for every single load, ensuring a carrier who has experience running your lane and commodity every time.
Experience
Anchor – I’m glad you guys have a commitment to your other carriers and I am not looking to take from them.
Disrupt – Quite frankly, if my customers said anything otherwise when somebody cold calls them, I’d be pretty upset.
Ask – What do you value in your current carrier base?
“Not bringing on new carriers?”
As found in an internal study by Walmart, this lead to a higher volume of claims compared to it’s counterpart, and as a result, Walmart will no longer receive product that is located in a trailer that contains this equipment.
