It was so powerful because at the time the primary OS was Windows 95 or 98 and attacked the windows 9x kernel. This kernel ran on top of MS-DOS and exploited the lack of security in DOS / Early windows versions
Where do you get a rootkit from?
There are many places to get a rootkit but some of the primary ones are:
Pirating movies, software, shows, ect
Playing older PC games online without a VPN. Ex. Call of Duty: Black Ops III online could lead you to get a rootkit from someone online.
Suspicious sites can download it to your computer

It was IBM. IBM made the "IBM Simon Personal Communicator" as the first "smart" phone in the world.
It works by a .vbs file hidden as a .txt love letter. This means the .vbs file will execute code and corrupt you hard drive.
Is there a place to report malware?
Yes... Sort of. The FBI will take malware reports but it depends on the severity. Be careful reporting what you find.

Yes you can hire one of them. For this you can hire the person who hacked Adobe. This person only was caught once and had the charges dropped. Everyone else is in a lengthy court trial trying to figure out their charges.

Yes and no. It depends on the malware but in most cases yes you can get rid of it.
Did computers always have an OS?
Yes but not in the way you may think. The OS you might be thinking of is Windows but the first version of Windows did not come out until the early 80's and computers were being made before hand. The OS's that were used before Windows and Mac OS were MS-DOS, Microsoft-Basic, or even their own proprietary OS.
