Identify 2 building materials we tested out this quarter.

Clics, LEGOs, pipe fitting materials, robot building materials, Pattern Blocks, Snap Cubes, magnets

100

What is the main difference between an evergreen tree and a deciduous tree?

Evergreens stay forever green, while deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall/autumn

100

Why is it important to become comfortable with the silence?

It gives your body a chance to relax and to check in on your own thoughts/emotions without distractions

100

Define “utensil” and give an example.

A utensil is any tool that can be used to handle food.  This includes forks, knives, spoons, whisks, and spatulas

100

Besides Mike Wazowski, name one of Ms. D’s other pets.

Lola and TommyBoy

200

What are two features that might be included in a blueprint?

A sketch of the design, necessary materials, measurements, steps to complete the build

200

Why would some trees want to lose their leaves in the fall/autumn?

Large, broad leaves are good at catching snow and ice, which can weigh the tree down and cause damage to the branches

200

Identify 1 coping strategy that may have negative consequences if used incorrectly.

Destroying, screaming, hitting, eating, disassociating, pushing it down, shopping

200

What kind of mold would you want to use in your house?

One that changes the shape of food, like an ice tray, cake pan, or muffin tin

200

What does Ms. D’s elderly dog like to pretend?

That she is deaf and can’t hear commands she doesn’t like

300

Which step of the Engineering Design Process is meant to be repeated and revised throughout a build?

The Build Step

300

How are pine and juniper trees able to keep their leaves year round?

They are evergreens, which have thin, sturdy leaves that are pointed downward so that snow and ice slides off and does not damage the tree in the winter

300

Identify the three steps necessary to take deep, calming breaths.

Inhale through your nose for 5 seconds, hold your breath for 5 seconds, exhale through your mouth for 5 seconds

300

What does it mean to be “neurodivergent”?  Give 1 example of a neurodivergency.

“Neurodivergents” have brains that work differently.  They may have anxiety, depression, ADHD, dyslexia, Autism, etc.)

300

What two neurodivergencies does Ms. D have?

Anxiety and depression

400

Why might it be necessary to compromise during a group build?

All group members need a say in what and how something is built in order to keep everyone happy and motivated.  This means that we may need to combine everyone’s ideas

400

What is chlorophyll and why is it important to trees?

Chlorophyll is the green substance that is stored in the leaves of trees.  It is a form of nutrients that the tree relies on to stay alive and healthy

400

What happens if you take too many rapid, shallow breaths from your chest?

You don’t take in enough oxygen and it can cause you to pass out

400

Identify 1 coping strategy that is okay to use in moderation.

Zoning out/disassociating, eating, pushing it down/aside, shopping

400

Why did Ms. D get a gecko tattoo this summer?

To honor her aunt who passed away this summer- she lived in Florida and was obsessed with the geckos that lived there

500

Why is it important to reflect when completing an engineering build?

Reflecting allows you to think back on what worked and what didn’t, which is necessary when considering how and what improvements to make during reconstruction

500

What happens to the green coloring of deciduous tree leaves during the fall/autumn?  Why does this occur?

The tree sucks the green coloring back into its trunk and roots so it can keep the nutrients contained in it when the leaves die off in the fall/autumn)

500

Why is exercising particularly beneficial to your mental health?

When you exercise, a chemical called dopamine is released in your brain, making you feel good

500

Define “diaphragm” and explain its connection to mental health.

The “diaphragm” is the muscle in the center of your abdomen that helps your lungs inflate.  If your diaphragm moves when you breath, it can help you to calm down

500

Identify one reason that moving to a new apartment this summer was exciting for Ms. D.

She now lives closer to work and this is her first time living alone
