What is mood?
Figurative language that compares two things without using like or as.

What is to join together 2 complete sentences that are closely related?
The sentence that is in your introduction paragraph and tells the reader your claim/reasons.
What is the thesis statement?
Giving the reader hints or clues about what will happen later in a story.
What is foreshadowing?
Giving human characteristics to non-humans.
What is personification?
Looking at the way two or more things or ideas are ALIKE.
What is comparing?
Look at the following sentence:
During the storm this morning my dog chased its tale.
What TWO changes should be made in this sentence?

What is 4?
Referencing something from popular culture, literature, history, the Bible, or a thing/idea/person that is widely known.
What is an allusion?
An exaggeration that would likely never happen.
What is hyperbole?
It is asking you to look at the DIFFERENCE between two or more things.
What is contrast?
Look at the following sentence:
Mrs. Sims, who looks 29 years old, teaches english at Lumberton HighSchool.
Name the THREE mistakes in this sentence.

What is tone?
A contradiction (difference) between what you think should happen and what actually happens.

What is the term AND purpose for the commas in this sentence?
What is an appositive or extra information? It separates the extra information that could be lifted out of the sentence and the sentence still makes sense.
The format that is used for short answer questions in STAAR.
What is RACE?
Mostly found at the end of a STAAR passage (in the last few paragraphs) and is the message the author is expressing.
What is the theme?
The way the author describes things so that the reader can almost feel, hear, see, smell, taste what they are describing?
What is imagery?
On the STAAR essay, there are FOUR different terms they might say to write an essay. Obviously, the word ESSAY is one term. Name at least TWO of the other three.
What is: composition, extended constructed response, and letter?
The words that FANBOYS stand for, what comes before FANBOYS, and what they are used for. (THREE PART ANSWER)
What are: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so?
They are preceded by a comma.
They are used to combine two independent clauses.
This is what a sentence SHOULD have if you use a direct quote. It gives the reader context.
