Routine
Change how a student learns the same materials as their peers.
Accommodations
When two or more educators co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess a group of students with unique needs, typically shared for an extended period, co-teaching can occur for one lesson, unit, or subject.
Co-teaching
A practice of asking students questions throughout instruction. Often used to measure engagement.
Opportunities to Respond (OTRs)
A process of adding or removing supports for students to master concepts.
Scaffolding
The proper way a task is carried out
Steps of a routine may require a procedure (i.e. how to unpack materials for class vs collecting papers)
Procedure
Change what the student learns, often resulting in a reduction in depth, complexity, and/or grade level content.
Modification
Refers to the supports and services a student will access to be educated, to the greatest extent possible, alongside their non-disabled peers. It is less a physical location than a concept and cascade of services. LRE is a legal concept required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
They are often teacher-developed to be closely aligned with instruction. The purpose is to help teachers monitor student progress on a specific targeted skill.
Informal assessments
Instruction in which the content, methodology, or delivery of the instruction is individually adapted to address the student’s disability-related needs so that the student can access, engage, and make progress in the general education curriculum and meet the standards and expectations that apply to all students of the same age or grade.
Specially Designed Instruction
The way students and adults should act at school (be respectful)
Expectation
Professionals who are employed in the educational sector and possess a credential, degree or certificate in a related field (e.g., teachers, psychologists, counselors, administrators, etc.).
Educational Professionals
Teaching assistant within the classroom/school. These include instructional assistants, one-to-ones, educational assistance, etc.
Paraprofessionals
Assessments with specific guidelines for administering, scoring and interpreting results with the purpose of gathering overall achievement data.
Formal assessments
A form of modeling in which the teacher verbalizes the thought process for completing a task or performing a mental process.
Think-aloud
Additional instruction designed to support and reinforce classroom skills characterized by increased intensity and individualization based on data.
Intensify Instruction
Providing services, practices, and resources for each and every learner based upon responsiveness to effective instruction and intervention.
