What is the number of students we are trying to get?
Daily. Attendance and active participation are required.
When are mandatory staff meetings held, and what is expected?
Store them securely; they are the sole property of Cal-SOAP.
What must staff do with Cal-SOAP documents or supplies after use?
Give workshops, presentations, one-on-one mentoring, college and career exploration.
What is Cal-SOAP's services?
Notify the Program Coordinator, then the Director, who will contact parents. If unresolved, the student may be dismissed from the program.
What if the disruptive behavior continues?
Call 911, notify parents/guardians, stay in contact with law enforcement and wait for PC and PD to give directions.
What you do if a student goes missing?
Avoid closed-door interactions; always involve another advisor or meet in open spaces.
What should you do if you need to meet with a student one-on-one?
No. Only Cal-SOAP laptops should be used.
Can staff use their personal laptop for Cal-SOAP work?
Low income, first generation, and from a geographically located high school with low-college going rates.
What are the Cal-SOAP eligibility criteria for students we serve?
Treat people how they want to be treated.
What is the Platinum Rule discussed in sensitivity training?
Only when there is a risk of harm to the student or others, in alignment with mandated reporting procedures.
When can student information be disclosed without breaching confidentiality?
No. Fraternizing—including dating, drinking, or any unprofessional conduct—is grounds for immediate termination.
Is it ever acceptable to fraternize with students during or after the Summer Academy?
Reach out the Program Coordinator with reasons to make changes.
Who should staff contact first if they need to request a room change in the dorms?
Give tutoring.
What does Cal-SOAP not do directly but support students to obtain?
Pull them aside and speak to them one-on-one to tell them their behavior is not appropriate and that they need to be more appropriate.
What is a good technique to manage a student that is not respecting the presenter?
Student records, financial information, transcripts, grade reports, contact sheets, and conversations.
What types of student information must be kept confidential?
Report to Campus Police (911 or 559-278-8400) immediately and complete Form SS 8572 within 36 hours.
Who are the staff required to report suspected child abuse or neglect to, and how soon must the report be made?
If documentation is submitted on time, a travel request was pre-approved in writing, and the Travel Expense Claim form is completed.
Under what condition can staff claim mileage reimbursement?
