How can a person's tone or body language be perceived by someone with autism?

Someone with autism might not be able to pick up on social cues like someone making a joke, using a tone of voice that expresses emotions, or being able to identify facial expressions. They might view everything as something serious, so if others are joking around, they might not see it that way. They might not be able to tell if someone is sad, angry, annoyed, or happy. You might need to explain to them what you are feeling, and they might ask follow up questions to know more. They are not doing this to upset you more, they just want to understand it more.
