Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER)
This program is meant to fund major repairs, emergency repairs and adaptations to improve the health and safety of on-reserve housing.
Max funding of $60k per unit (*+25% increase applicable to northern/remote FN's and/or accessibility work for Persons with Disabilities or minor adaptations for Seniors)
On-Reserve Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP)
Once a year, a low-income person may qualify to receive $650-$780 if they fall behind on their utility bill. Eligible Factors: Household income and # of people in home.
($650 for homes heated by natural gas or $780 for homes heated electrically)
Low-income Energy Assistance Program
This program provides funding support to remote First Nations communities to implement energy-efficiency projects that will help them manage energy use more effectively to save on energy costs, and increase the comfort of their homes and businesses.
Energy Assessment of homes and businesses at no cost. Based on the results of the energy audit, qualified homes and businesses may receive no-cost energy-saving measures
Examples include Smart Power bars, refrigerators, chest freezers, dehumidifiers, insulation, and draft-proofing upgrades.
Remote First Nations Energy Efficiency Program (RFNEEP)
This resourceful piece of equipment allows for temperature to be controlled remotely and efficiently to save anywhere from 10-25% on your utility bill annually
Requires Wi-fi to be remotely operated
Smart Thermostat
This energy credit can be applied to On-Reserve Residential customers to remove the "HST" or tax portion of their utility bill. *Not applicable to Hydro One Remotes customers as this credit is a fixed amount*
First Nation Delivery Credit
This program is designed to help Canadians accessing an interest-free loan for retrofitting their home to make it more energy efficient. Retrofits can't have started and solutions will be recommended by an Energy Advisor.
Min. amount of $5k, max of $40k over 10 years
Canada Greener Home Loans (CGHL)

This program is meant for Homes and Businesses' that are connected to the electricity grid. Having an installed Smart thermostat will allow for brief time-limited adjustments to be made which slightly change the temperature to decrease energy consumption in high peak times on the grid.
Must have 50 or fewer employees
Receive a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard upon enrolling. Also an additional $20 virtual prepaid Mastercard for each additional year enrolled
Peak Perks Program
This Operator controls the electrical distribution network for communities in the north/remote areas.
This network is connected to the main provincial grid system
Hydro One Remotes
This energy program is to help assist people who are behind on their electricity or natural gas bill and face having their service disconnected. Eligible Factors: Household income and # of People in household
Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
This program is designed for Commercial buildings such as multi-unit residential, educational and institutional buildings to receive an incentive to upgrade to high-efficient equipment. An Energy Solutions Advisor (ESA) will help identify opportunities to save and increase efficiency.
Types of retrofit projects include: boilers, water heating systems, building automation systems, heat recovery, and variable frequency drives.
Must be in the Enbridge service area or previously served by Union Gas.
Commercial Custom Retrofit Program (Provided by Enbridge)
This energy program is designed to remove a soon to be outdated heating source and replace it with a much more energy efficient heating source. This heating method is becoming obsolete
Requires the home to be connected to the electrical grid to make the transition
Up to $10k in incentives for making the energy efficient transition
Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA)
This program is designed to help small businesses across Ontario make equipment improvements to reduce their energy consumption, at no cost.
50 or fewer employees
Up to $3,000 in lighting equipment and $2,500 in non-lighting equipment
Participants in the former Save on Energy Small Business Lighting program, Refrigeration Efficiency program, Business Refrigeration Incentive program, and RTUsaver program may be eligible for certain upgrades.
Small Business Program
Operator who controls the entire provincial electrical grid system. They are responsible for power generation, transmission and distribution in real time along with forecasting future energy needs for Ontario.
They provide many energy saving programs that help with costs and using less energy.
Energy Champions within communities are often funded by this entity
Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)
This energy program is designed to give a credit to help assist low-medium income household with their utility bills. May qualify for a free energy-needs assessment by a trained energy specialist.
There are two streams: one of which provides basic energy efficiency gadgets. While the second stream can provide appliance replacements in addition to the energy efficiency gadgets.
Energy Affordability Program (EAP)
Funding covers activities that allow you to learn more about your building energy performance and what retrofits are required to meet deep energy retrofit targets.
The maximum contribution is $130,000 per project.
Eligible activities include, but aren’t limited to:
• a building condition assessment (BCA) report • an energy audit (ASHRAE 3 or equivalent) • an energy modelling study • project drawings and specifications • engineering studies • construction cost estimates• developing a business case to demonstrate the benefits or impact of the retrofit • environmental site assessments or a hazardous materials report • site surveys
Pre-Retrofit Funding for Multi-unit Residential Buildings
This program is designed for Energy-saving upgrades at no cost. If your home and household income levels qualify, you’ll be eligible for insulation, draft proofing, smart thermostats, ENERGY STAR® certified appliances and more.
Free home energy assessment by an authorized delivery agent to assess efficiencies
Requires having an Enbridge Gas account in your name. You heat your home with natural gas
Home Winterproofing Program (HWP)
This energy program is designed to assist commercial businesses to be more energy efficient with their equipment. They may receive instant discounts up to $1,250 off participating distributers/dealers. No paperwork, no waiting.
Examples:
(Electrical) Energy Star: Commercial Refrigerator, Commerical Freezer, Commercial Ice Machine
(Natural Gas) Energy Star: Griddle, Combi-Ovens, Fryers, Steam Cookers, Oven Racks, Convection Ovens
Food Service Distributer Discount Program (FSDDP)
This resourceful App allows for individuals and businesses to navigate all the energy programs, subsidies and credits available to them by answering a few simple questions.
Rather than combing thru all the differing criteria program after program as there are over 26 and counting. This App will only show you the programs you are eligible for and will filter out programs you are not eligible for.
Boodawewin
This program is meant to give a credit on your electrical utility bill. The credit will last 2 years for people under the age of 65. Ages 65+ and ODSP clients may have the credit remain on the utility account for 5 years. Eligible Factors are household income and people in household.
Credits range from: $35-$115 of credit on every months electrical utility bill
Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)
This energy program is designed to support on-reserve First Nations communities undertake energy-efficient projects at no cost.
Must be Grid connected. Commercial and institutional facilities buildings must be band owned.
Up to $330k in funding
First Nations Community Building Retrofit Program (FNCBRP)
This energy program is designed to offer incentives to homeowners who heat their home electrically located in eligible areas to receive incentives on purchasing and installing heat pumps along with a Smart thermostat.
This energy program is one of the few that does not factor in income but is limited to certain postal codes
HomeEnergySaver Program (HES)
This program is designed to give business incentives to those who lower their carbon footprint and increase their energy efficiency measures
Businesses can receive up to 50% of their eligible costs covered for energy efficiency upgrades in: Lighting, HVAC, and Manufacturing and other equipment.
Examples of eligible projects: lighting controls, HVAC redesign, chiller replacement, variable-speed drive installations, custom equipment retrofits
Retrofit Program
This First Nation Non-for-Profit organization helps support energy needs for the members it serves.
They provide support in OESP mass intake applications, residential energy efficiency training, both of which are free of charge to its members. It also provides corporate/industry bootcamp for a small fee.
