Ratios and Proportional Relationships
A comparison of two quantities using division, often written as a:b or a/b.
Ratio
The distance a number is from zero on the number line.
Absolute value
A number multiplied by a variable, such as the 5 in 5x.
Coefficient
The distance in a two-dimensional shape.
Perimeter
The average of a set of numbers, found by summing the values and dividing by the count.
Mean
A ratio of two quantities with different units, like miles per hour.
Rate
Numbers that are the same distance from zero but on opposite sides, like 5 and -5.
Opposites
Parts of an expression separated by addition or subtraction
Terms
The measure of the amount of space inside a two-dimensional shape.
Area
The middle value in an ordered set of numbers.
Median
The rate for one unit of a given quantity, such as 5 dollars per pound.
Unit Rate
The set of whole numbers and their opposites.
Integers
Terms that have the same variables raised to the same powers, like 3x and -7x.
Like terms
The measure of the amount of space inside a three-dimensional object.
Volume
The value or values that occur most often in a set of data.
Mode
This is a fixed ratio between two variables, represented by k in the equation y = kx.
constant of proportionality
Any number that can be expressed as a ratio p/q, where p and q are integers and q doesn't equal 0.
Rational Number
A mathematical sentence that uses an equals sign (=) to show two expressions are equal.
Equation
The distance from the center of a circle to any point on the circle.
Radius
A number expressing the likelihood of a specific event occurring.
Probability
The relationship between two quantities where their ratio is constant.
proportional relationship
A number that results in a repeating or terminating decimal, like 1/3 or 1/4
Rational number
To find the value of a variable that makes an equation true.
Solve
The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, approximately 3.14159...
Pi
The difference between the highest and lowest values in a data set.
