Why is the Equatorial Climate so Wet?

The sun heats the Earth and the air above it.

As the air heats up, it begins to rise

As it rises the air begins to cool and it condenses to form clouds. This is called condensation.

Water droplets form and fall to earth as rain in heavy thunderstorms

This is known as convectional rainfall

Why is the Equatorial Climate so hot?

Places near the equator are warmer than places which are further away from the equator.

This is because the surface of the Earth isn't heated evenly (places at the equator are heated more than those at the poles).

At the equator the heat from the sun is spread out over a smaller area, so the suns heat is more concentrated

At the poles the heat is spread out over a larger area so there is little heating.
