We've had some awesome lead mentors in our history! Joe Lemieux, from 2012 to 2015, Reuben Galang from 15-16, Keith Boruta from 17-21 and Doug Chubb from 22-Present!
Umm, Actually, Reuben was NEVER lead mentor!
In 2024, the game was called Crescendo! Sponsored by Qualcomm Where teams would shoot notes into the speaker and to score more points, teams would put 3 notes into the amplifier to enter into an amplified period where notes into the speaker went from 2 points to 5 points!
Umm, Actually, teams only had to put 2 notes into the amp to enter into an amplified period
FIM will always be one of the best District competitions FRC will ever see. Not only are teams highly competitive, but the love for FIM teams will always be next to none! One of the traditions FIM has will always be FIMstein. Where all four division winners at states play against each other. For some reason, A Jar of pickles is awarded and handed down to the teams that are on the winning alliance. Along with another blue banner!
Umm Actually, the jar of pickles is only awarded to the captain of the winning alliance!
A nod to our newest mentor from this year, Mr Beaudoin helped out with our scouters this year! Did you know he was born in Canada? He also owns 6 Apple Computers ranging in age from 1987 all the way to 2020!
In Harry Potter, the Deathly Hallows are the magical items won by the Peverell Brothers from Gellert Grindelwald: The Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisiblity.
Umm, actually, the brothers won the Hallows from Death himself.
Some of our mentors have been here for a very long time! Our longest standing mentor is Mr. Galang. Reuben, his son, was a founding member as a student then quickly became a mentor after graduation. Mrs Wash has also been around since the beginning!
Umm, Actually, Mrs. Wash is the longest standing mentor as she started the team a month before Mr. Galang was voluntold by Reuben!
In 2022, the game was called Rapid React sponsored by Boeing. In this game, alliances had to shoot their alliances large tennis balls called cargo into the lower hub or upper hub to score points. During end game, teams would climb up 4 rungs worth different points the higher the robot traverses, starting from 4 points, then 6, to 12, then 15!
Umm, Actually, the points for the different rungs are 4, 6, 10, and 15!
Did you know that Team RUSH has a game named after them the year after they were inducted into the hall of fame? It's called Recycle Rush. Back in 2015. Turns out, this was the least popular game in FRC history according to many robotics enthusiasts!
Umm Actually, it was only a coincidence that the game was called Recycle Rush after 27 won the chairman's award in 2014!
Believe it or not, Mr. Oweis kinda had a pretty wild up bringing! He rolled his first car on all sides, one rotation short of landing back on the wheels. He also got kicked out of Cedar Point for standing on Gemini as cars were pulled to top.
Umm, Actually it was Blue Streak he stood up on!
In Star Wars, in order to free young Anakin Skywalker from slavery, Qui-Gon Jinn first uses a Jedi Mind Trick to convince his master Watto, a Toydarian junk merchant, to allow him to pod race.
Umm, actually, mind tricks don't work on Toydarians.
Team 4405 started in 2013. Our first meeting room was in the classroom with the chemistry lab at PCA. There reason we named ourselves the Atom's Family is because we saw the periodic table in the classroom and wanted to make a cool pun out of our name!
Umm, Actually, our rookie season was in 2012 NOT in 2013
In 2023, the game was called Charged Up! sponsored by Boeing. In this game, alliances would run full cycles across the field to place cones and cubes onto nodes, getting a bonus when there are 3 in a row. For endgame, teams would balance on the charge plate for a total of 10 points a robot for an engaged (balanced) charge plate.
Umm, Actually, the game was sponsored by HAAS
862 has been one of our teams we've been friends with for a very long time! The first time we were aligned together was 2018 where we made it all the way to the finals together at the Gibraltar district! Ever since then our two teams have always been working close with each other.
Umm, Actually, the first time we aligned together was in 2017!
In college, Mrs. Wash was on the Billiards team! She also played tennis in high school and college. In her college years for tennis, she only had 1 loss her entire career. But, my favorite fun fact about her is that she's been strapped for over 20 years by having her concealed license! Mrs Wash don't play!
Umm Actually, Mrs. Wash went undefeated in tennis during her college career!
Monsters: they're scary, and often they are just two animals crammed together, and the monster manuals of Dungeons & Dragons feature many such monsters, including Owlbears, Duckbunnies, Skunk Cows, and Spider-horses.
Umm, actually, there are no Skunk Cows but there are Stench Kows.
We won our very first award in 2014 at the Livonia District. The game was Ariel Assist. We had a deep playoff run with the 5th Alliance, consisting of us, The Gems and The Goon Squad. We won the Industrial Design award at the event!
Umm, Actually, our first award ever was being a Finalist at the Livonia District!
In 2019, the game was called Destination: Deep Space. This game had a unique first 15 seconds where there was no autonomous period. Instead, there was a sandstorm period where teams would be blinded by a curtain for 15 seconds as teams tried to score cargo or hatch panel!
Umm, Actually, teams could either drive their robot OR have an auton during the sandstorm period
254 will always be one of the best teams in FRC history. The Cheesy Poofs were inducted into the hall of fame in 2005 and have since won several world competitions including an undefeated season in 2018! 254 used to be one of the biggest meme teams, but now a notoriously no nonsense team with the most ironic name for their personality as a team
Umm, Actually 254 was inducted in the hall of fame in 2004
For some reason, Mr Chubb decided to not give me any FUN facts. Instead he said the following: "I have broken both of my arms twice, my collarbone, my face (orbital). My nickname from my family growing up was dog breath. I don’t know why. I have a fake front tooth from hitting my face on a curb riding my skateboard." But at least he has several US and Foreign patents and was a state champion in multiple disciplines in high school!
Umm, Actually, Mr Chubb hit his face on a curb riding his bike!
Yes his nickname was Dog Breath for some reason
Dungeons and Dragons has a lot of monsters that have been drawn from European Folklore such as the Kobold, Goblin, Orc, and Troll but also has several monsters unique to D&D, such as the Tarrasque or the fearsome Grell.
Umm, actually, Orcs were invented by J.R.R Tolkein for Middle Earth.
We have had a lot of success in our history! We have won 6 Blue Banners, 3 Finalist Awards, 3 Quality Award, 1 Creativity Award, 1 Engineering Inspiration Award, 1 Imagery Award, 1 Industrial Design Award, and 3 Autonomous Awards!
Umm Actually, we only have 5 Blue Banners
In 2014, the game was called Ariel Assist! In this game, alliances had to work together to pass a large medicine ball across the field and score it into the goals! To score more points, the teams could pass the ball to each other, cross into different zones, and shoot the ball over the truss. For the end game, teams had to climb the middle truss for 10 points a robot!
Umm, Actually, there was no endgame for this game!
Ever wonder why we get called the Atom bots all the time? Well that is because of team 245 the Adambots from Macomb, Michigan. Whenever we were at the same competition together, we would always get our name confused with theirs as Tom Nadar would always get it wrong. To fix it, Nadar would often say we were the "Atoms Family, no D in Atoms"
Umm Actually, team 245 the Adambots are located in Rochester, Michigan!
Mr Wright will be our 500 point Umm, Actually statement. He rolled over a car as well but not as a driver, but this time landed on all 4 wheels. He was detained on Alcatraz and was ultimately escorted off the island. On a missions trip, he slept under the stars in Africa only to be woken up by an elephant walking roughly 20ft from him. He also had the opportunity to drive a Formula 3 race car and went around 120 mph on a race track.
Umm, Actually, it was a hippo that woke up Mr Wright!
In The Chronicles of Narnia, the human visitors to Narnia are also united by their death, a train wreck that kills every human vistor to Narnia simultaneously, including Diggory Kirk and Polly Plummer, Jill Pole, the four Pevensie siblings and their cousin Eustace Scrubb.
Umm, actually, Susan is not killed in the train wreck, as she is in America at the time.
