Their shoes - if they are muddy, clean and disinfect them! If they don't have proper ones, they need to be going on a shorter hike or talk to Dave
When do your hikes leave?
Starting with Eagle, a bell is rung every 30 minutes
(eagle, cloverdale, peerless, rainbow, balman, rainbows, etc)
What time must ALL hikes be turned around by?
2 pm (especially Eagle, no matter what!)
What is a hot spot? How are they preventable?
When friction creates blisters on skin, often times on feet because of shoes. Preventable with mole skin or duct tape
What information should you share about each hike?
number of miles, terrain, altitude, difficulty, and an honest explanation about the preparation they should have to go on a more difficult hike
What are extra things (not the main 4) that your campers should bring on the hike?
Sunscreen, lip balm, camera, morning watch journal, extra layers, etc
What are the 4 things that are required for every single camper to have to go on hike day?
2 Water bottles, a raincoat, a whistle, and a backpack with 2 good straps
If your campers ask what time it is, how much longer we have to go, other things, how do you respond?
11:11, 11 miles left, 11 hours left (don't ever reveal the actual information)
What can you do during the hikes?
Mysteries, riddles, scripture, sing a song, boom chicka boom, etc
What does a camper NEED to have to go on a difficult hike? (aka Rainbow and longer)
Sturdy shoes or boots, 2 water bottles, good socks, layers, rain gear, and a whistle
What should your campers be doing at every meal and through each day leading up to hike day, especially the night before?
DRINKING WATER!!!!
What should your camper NOT bring on their hike?
Phones, watches, trash that they are not willing to bring back
Can the campers walk at their own pace?
What should your campers do IMMEDIATELY after you get back to camp and have prayed out?
Return their hike gear to Pestemon, jelly and sunbutter tubes returned to Aspen, all left over food to Aspen, throw their trash away
When should you have your hike lists turned in by?
Monday Lunch (if not Monday morning!!)
Where do your campers check out hiking gear that they are missing?
Penstemon (the shed by Holling and the trail to the ballfield)
What should your campers grab while circled up before leaving on their hike?
Community lunch bags, EITHER an orange or an apple, a granola bar, and if willing the dig it or iodine.
How often should lead and med pack be checking in on the radio with base (camp)?
Every 30 minutes and at each specific check in point, unless other assistance is needed
How do you put Iodine in water?
What is the VERY first thing that you talk about with your campers at Sunday night dinner?
What hike they want to do!
What is the most important thing you have your campers do the night before hike day?
get their ENTIRE bag ready to go, and if they're on an early or long hike, fill their waterbottles
Don't cut corners on switchbacks, stay on trail, only go to the bathroom at least 200 feet from a water source, pack it in pack it out
What is the phrase we repeat about our hike day philosophy while on the hikes?
Its about the journey, not the destination

4 PM!!! you can spend extra God time, play games with the campers, play in nature, and many other things at lunch spot or along the hike to delay your return if needed
