What are the ratios for infants, preschool and school age?

Bonus- What if preschool and schoolage were outside at the same time? 

Infant= 1:4

Toddlers (2 years old)= 1:6

Preschool= 1:8

Schoolage= 1:15

Bonus= Schoolage would count as half a preschooler (so if you have 3 preschool and 5 schoolage you would have 8 bodies but a ratio of 5.5).

The more you know= If infants were in the mix they would count as 2 preschoolers

What is our Fire Drill Protocol (included the location of our shelter-in-place)?


-Gather the children, one staff leading the group 

-One staff has the clip board and backpack

-One staff will do a sweep of the room/play yard and ensure no children, staff and/or visitors are left behind

-The rest of the staff will help lead the children to the parking lot, the building in front of the infant room (Building C- which is our shelter-in-place) 

-One staff from each group will do a face to name for their group then report to the director

-If it's too cold and/or if we'll be waiting a while then we go into the multi purpose room in building C

-Lastly wait for further instructions

A parent tells you a family member, who is not on the pick up list, is coming to pick up their child today. What is the protocol?

Bonus- What if the family member forgets their ID?

Let the parent know that the family member must bring in a form of ID. Let the other staff know and have a staff check the ID, ensuring it's the right person, before allowing the child to go with them. 

Bonus- The child will NOT be released to the family member. The family member must go and get their ID or call the parents/guardians to figure out an alternative solution

What is the protocol for medications from home?

-Staff can't administer Tylenol, Advil, Motrin or cough syrup to a sick child. However staff are able to give teething children over the counter medication if its been prescribed by a doctor.

-A medication form must be filled out in order for staff to administer it

-Child must be on the medication, at home, for at least 24 hours before bringing it to the Centre

-The medication has to come in its original bottle

-Medication needs to be handed directly to the staff then placed in the lock box/up high

What is our Tornado Warning Protocol?

-Gather the children, one staff leading the group 

-One staff has the clip board and backpack

-One staff will do a sweep of the room/play yard and ensure no children, staff and/or visitors are left behind

-The rest of the staff will help lead the children to the their tornado shelter spot (Infants= bathroom, both preschool rooms= main entrance stairwell and school age= the single toilet bathroom) 

-One staff from each group will do a face to name for their group then report to the director 

-Lastly wait for further instructions


The more you know:

-Tornado Watch= Be aware and monitor for a warning

-Tornado Warning= Take action

A parent seem to be under the influence, what do you do?

Offer to call them an alternative ride home. If they refuse, let them know that, per our policy, we are obligated to call the RCMP. If the continue to refuse, we can not stop them and we call the RCMP.

A child has a wood tick, what do you do?

Hint- there are 3 steps.

-Remove the tick

-Contact and inform the parents/guardians

What is our protocol if you suspect a child is being abused?

-The person who suspect and/or witnesses the abuse calls CFS 

-Document the situation (Include- date, time, who was involved and what happened)

-Notify the director

What are the Discipline Procedure Steps?

Hint- There are 4 steps.

1. A Verbal Warning 

2. Written Warning 1st offence- Discussion and written documentation 

3.Written Warning 2nd offence- Discussion, written documentation and disciplinary suspension

4. Written Warning 3rd offence-Discussion, written documentation and dismissal

Any form of abuse and breaching confidentiality are grounds of IMMEDIARE dismissal

What is our Threating Behaviour Protocol if we're outside?

Bonus- Location of each rooms shelter-in-place for this protocol.

-Inform all staff about the situation 

-Gather the children, one staff leading the group 

-One staff has the clip board and backpack

-One staff will do a sweep of the play yard and ensure no child, staff and/or visitor are left behind

-The rest of the staff will help lead the children to their assigned rooms, closing the blinds and ensuring the doors are locked (In-place-shelters *Ensure doors are locked* Infant= Bathroom, both preschool rooms= the staff bathroom and school age= the single toilet bathroom)  

-One staff from each group will do a face to name for their group then report to the director 

-One staff will call 911 and inform the police of the situation

-Lastly wait for further instructions from the police 

*DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE POLICE TELLS YOU IT'S SAFE*

You are at Teulon Elementary picking up the school agers. A child, who was been scheduled to attend the after school program, has not met at the designated meeting place within 5 minutes of the schools dismissal. 

You must now follow the Missing Child Policy which is to do what?

1. The ECE will contact the school secretary and they'll page the child, requesting them to proceed to the meeting place immediately. After 2 minutes the child will be pages again.


2. If the child still hasn't come to the meeting place after the second page, the ECE will contact the child's parent/guardian and notify them that their child as not come to the meeting place. It is now the parent/guardians reasonability to locate their child (a message will be left if the parent/guardian can not be reached)

3. If the parent/guardian is inaccessible, we will call the contacts on the child's emergency contact list and it will become their responsibility to locate the child. 

*The school age staff ARE NOT responsible for locating missing children, the children become our responsibility once the staff has been signed in.*

These Illnesses have gone through the Centre last year, what are the protocols for each one? 

-Fever (including what is considered a fever)

-Vomiting 

-Diarrhea (there is an exception)

-Pink Eye 

-Colds

-Hand, Foot and Mouth 

-And Head Lice

Fever= 101F or 38.5C- Parents/guardians will be contacted to pick up their child. If the child has a fever throughout the night, they should not be coming back to the Centre the next day.

Vomiting= Parents/guardians will be contacted to pick up their child and they must go 24 hour with out vomiting before returning to the Centre.

Diarrhea= If there are two cases of diarrhea, the child will be sent home and must go 24 hours with having diarrhea before returning to the Centre.         Exception= If the child has a note from a doctor indicating that the diarrhea is due to a chronic bowel condition or another underlying medical issue.

Pinkeye= Parents/guardians will be contacted to pick up their child. If it's bacterial then the child must be on medication for 24 hours and have no goop before returning to the Centre. If it's viral then the child must be goop free before returning to the Centre.

Colds= If the child can not participate then the child will need to go home.

Hand, Foot and Mouth= A child will need to be picked up as soon as possible. The child must remain at home until the blister are dry.

Head Lice= Child must be treated with lice shampoo and have all the lice and nits removed. Staff will check their heads for lice and live nits upon returning. Children will be sent home if lice and/or live nits have been found.

What are 3 points from our supervision policy?

-Scan and monitor the room at all time

-Position yourself to have a clear line sight on all the children 

-Have a list of the children's names (Gym and/or outside)

-Head count and face to name through every door and during play

-Communication (Verbal, walkie talkies and phone)
