The name, Pound Cake, comes from the fact that people used to use one pound of each ingredient to make it. When people made Pound Cake, they used one pound of butter, one pound of sugar, one pound of eggs, and one pound of flour. In the past, when many people didn’t know how to read or write, this name made it easy for people to remember the recipe.

Yes, there should have probably been more “house rules". In this house, however, there was really only one that mattered. That rule was to keep the screen door shut…and shut tight. The reason for this rule was pretty simple. If we didn't tightly shut the screen door, we’d have a tornado of flies corkscrewing around the center of the kitchen within five minutes. Despite this one hard and fast rule, one of us would inevitably break it several times a week.

This is why some people refer to cranberries as ‘bounceberries.’ You can also look at the cranberry’s shape and color. Ripe cranberries will be plump and shiny and their color will range from light red to dark red. Cranberries that have brown spots should not be eaten.

Every year, the town had a singing competition, and the town had some truly amazing singers. Marie wasn't one of them, but she loved nothing more than singing and performing.
