The Collatz conjecture is a mathematical hypothesis about what happens when you repeatedly apply a simple rule to any positive integer: if the number is even, divide it by 2, and if it is odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1. The conjecture states that no matter what positive integer you start with, this process will always eventually reach the cycle 4 → 2 → 1.
