A student is active but does not appear on the Soft SAP report. The advisor needs attempted credits, earned credits, GPA hours, and quality points to help create an accurate SAP plan. Which report should the advisor check next?

Bonus: what if the student is not on any SAP reports?

SAP Plan Criteria report - It includes active students, including active readmit and new students for an upcoming term, and provides the academic data used to support SAP-plan creation (i.e. what you need for the SAP calculator).

Bonus: Check the student's program to make sure it is active (Unify or SGASTDN in Banner Admin). If inactive, follow the steps to reactivate a student and have an advisor assigned. Confirm they have completed a FAFSA for the academic year and recommend they speak with SFS.

The deadline to submit a SAP appeal for UG students is...

11:59 pm on Monday of week 7. UG students technically have until the Monday of week 7 in the second term of their semester

True or false: The term “SAP Suspended” is equivalent to "NOSAP"

FALSE:

The term “SAP Suspended” is not to be confused with NOSAP, which refers to students who did not meet the parameters of their plan and are restricted from appealing to regain financial aid eligibility for two terms.

Instead, "SAP Suspended" refers to students who are unsatisfactory, and do not meet the requirements of SAP. These students can work with advisors to submit an appeal.

What is the difference between SAP Codes and SAP cohorts?

SAP Codes are what you may see in Banner Admin (ROASTAT), Hard SAP, or the SAP Plan Criteria Report, showing a student's current SAP status. For example, GCUGS = Satisfactory, GCUGPF = plan failed/NOSAP, GCUGU = unsatisfactory, etc.

SAP Cohort refers to the anniversary term that a student will be run for SAP review:

11 = Term C1

16 = C2

51 = C3

56 = C4

81 = C5

86 = C6

Name two examples of the tabs on the end-of-term Hard SAP report and what they are for.

  • Unsatisfactory - students are not meeting SAP requirements and will need to submit an appeal.
  • Starting Approved Plan (GCUGPL) - Student submitted an appeal and is on an academic plan
  • Monitoring for Max Timeframe - Students have attempted the max. number of courses towards their degree program that can be covered by financial aid.
  • Warning - Students on this tab have one term to improve their GPA and/or completion rate before they are re-run to determine their SAP status in their UG or GR certificate program. Note: Financial aid eligibility is not impacted by the first run during the term a warning is issued.
  • Academic Plans (Single & Trimester) - Check the status of students who were on a plan and had their semester review. This is where we find who was NOSAP'd or who is continuing on their academic plan.

Outline the steps Advisors must take if a student is NOSAP

Bonus: explain NOSAP exceptions and when this is applicable.

  1. Advisors check for NOSAP'd students on the Hard SAP report
  2. When a student has a NOSAP restriction added:
    1. The Advisor should email and call them as quickly as possible.
    2. The Advisor should explain the student failed the terms of their SAP plan, and as a result they will not be eligible for financial aid for 2 terms for either UG or GR.
  3. If a student cannot pay for courses without Financial Aid, OR does not respond to Advising outreach, NOSAP students should be dropped no later than the date given in Hard SAP email, generally the Friday of Week 1 for UG or GR.
    • Advisors need to drop NOSAP students from their courses if Advisors do not receive their direct acknowledgement that they do not have financial aid for the upcoming terms.
  4. Students can continue to take courses if they are able to pay for them with an alternative method. Students must acknowledge this via email or on a recorded line.
