Ranofer figure out that Heqet had six younger borthers and one sister, all younger then him, where he lives, that his father is overseer of storehouses on Lord Mahote's estate, and that Heqet knows how to keep his lips sealed.

Chapter 3. What task did Rekh assign to Ranofer? Whom did Ranofer teach to make charcoal?

 In chapter three, when Rekh arrives at the goldsmith shop, he tells Ranofer to get charcoal and heat a furnace. While doing this, he meets Heqet, and teaches him how to make charcoal.

Ranofers punishment was that he got beat up, he could not eat, and Gebu threatened Ranofer with apprenticing him a the stone cutting shop.

After leaving Heqet, Ranofer watches an apprentice making a bowl out of gold. He sees that the apprentice’s hammer is not ringing true when he strikes the bowl so he offers advice. When his advice proves correct the apprentice and Rekh are both impressed.

Rekh sent Ranofer to Aba the potters to buy a new crucible and to buy five measures of natron and while he was there he saw Ibni the Babylonian emerging from his wine shop.
