How often must an aircraft receive an annual inspection?

Every 12 calendar months

100

What are the primary flight controls?

Elevator, Rudder and Aileron

100

What are the four forces of flight?

Lift, weight, drag and thrust

100

What is our maximum gross weight?

2400 lbs

100

What is your teacher's name?

Caleb Robinson

200

Who is ultimately responsible for determining that an aircraft is airworthy before flight?

The Pilot-In-Command (PIC)

200

What kind of engine do we have?

Lycoming O 320

200

What is used to increase lift and drag, allowing the aircraft to fly at a lower speed for takeoff and landing

Flaps

200

What is the point at which the aircraft would balance if it were suspended at that point?

Center-of-Gravity

200

What is the name of this flight school?

Teens-In-Flight

300

What is a legally enforceable regulation issued by the FAA to correct an unsafe condition?

Airworthiness Directive

300

What provides electrical power to the aircraft's electrical system?

The Alternator

300

What is a stall and how do they occur?

An aircraft stalls when it exceeds its critical angle of attack (the angle between the relative wind and the chord line.) The aircraft loses lift.

300

What is the basic formula used in weight and balance calculations?

weight x arm = moment

300

What kind of planes do we train with?

Cessna 172N and Piper Warrior
400

Does an Airworthiness Certificate expire? Registration?

An Airworthiness Certificate does not expire. A registration expires every 7 years.

400

What are the three primary instruments that rely on the static system?

Altimeter, VSI, and airspeed indicator.

400

What are the three types of parasite drag?

Form drag, interference drag, and skin-friction drag

400

What is an aircraft's arm?

The horizontal distance from the reference datum to the location of the weight.

400

How many hours are required to earn your ATP certificate?

1500 hrs

500

If an aircraft has a 100-hour inspection due at 1,250 hours and the aircraft reaches 1,253 hours while en route to an inspection facility, is that automatically a violation?

No. The 100-hour inspection interval may be exceeded by up to 10 hours when necessary to reach a place where the inspection can be performed, and the excess time must be included in the next 100-hour interval.

500

What is a Carburetor? What are the potential threats associated with it?

The carburetor is a device that mixes fuel with air in the correct proportion before the mixture enters the engine cylinders for combustion. The biggest risk associated with a carburetor is carburetor icing.

500

How is lift created? Explain

Bernoulli's Principle and Newtons 3rd Law

500

What are the pros and cons of having an aft CG?

Pros: Better performance, faster cruising speed

Cons: Worse stall recovery, less stable

500

What is our mission at TIF?

To provide free PPL flight training to children of the underserved and of fallen veterans.
