Who has the potential to engage in abuse?

Anybody if they are put in the right situation. Normal rational citizens. Just everyday people, especially when faced with stressful demands or circumstances. 

However, the Disability and Abuse Project data substantiated what we already suspected: a person with a disability is more likely to be abused by a family member or someone in their daily routine than they are by a complete stranger.

Yes- This is in our handbook and is considered a holiday. The office is closed and there is no In-home scheduled for that day. The only staff that are able/expected to work that day are staff that work in Res-Hab. When working in a res-hab site the staff member is paid time and a half.

How long do you have to complete all documentation (case notes & ISP data) after the end of a shift?  

24 hours for documentation done in therap. Res Hab is required to have it done before leaving the site.

An employee who is scheduled to work must notify their supervisor at least 2 hours prior to the beginning of their shift.

Employees need to contact both their Manager AND the families to let them know of their absence.  It is mandatory that you receive a response if calling in for a shift.

If working in Res Hab – ensure coverage of your shift by calling other employees that are trained in the home AND calling the Lead DSP for the home.

Does Encompass pay if the person you support breaks your phone?

No, Encompass does not pay when a consumer breaks your personal belongings. It is the responsibility of the staff member to talk with the parent in in home or your QDDP to contact the guardian to receive compensation for any broken personal items. This does not mean the parent or guardian will be willing to compensate you back. Every measure (within company policy) should be obtained to protect your belongings.

What is the maximum amount of minutes that a staff can do a TR hold?

30 mins, then you must release the person supported and assess for injury. If the person continues to cause imminent danger to themselves or others, then the staff can implement another physical technique.

A person supported does not have a lockable bedroom door due to self-injurious behaviors. Informed consent/due process was obtained and documentation was in his service plan. Does this comply with Federal rules?

Because a consumer legally has the right to refuse medication, the DSP can only recommend, advise, suggest, or urge the consumer to comply. If the consumer refuses and it is past the 1 hour window you must email and admin staff and we will have a GER.

What are the potential problems with ‘friending’ people you support on social media accounts?  

It can reveal that person’s identity

It can reveal his/her status as a person receiving services

This can be complicated as to whether or not the person can legally give their permission or understand how their information may be used or shared

Postings on your site may reveal personal information about yourself that is inappropriate to share with people supported or their family members
