What does it mean to listen with your whole body?

Whole-body listening is more than just “hearing” with the ears. It requires focus and concentrated effort, both mental and sometimes physical. It includes:

  1. Listening with the eyes→ looking toward the speaker 

  2. Listening with the ears→ both ears ready to hear

  3. Listening with the mouth→ quiet and waiting for your turn to talk

  4. Listening with the hands→ quietly and keeping to yourself

  5. Listening with the feet→ quiet and still

  6. Listening with the body→ facing toward the speaker

  7. Listening with the brain→ thinking about what is being said

  8. Listening with the heart→ considering the speaker and others listening

What is a coping skill?

A coping skills is basically any activity that is good for a person's mental health. They are the things we do in-the-moment, when we are feeling “not right”, to help us get through our big emotions, and avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Why is it important to know about our feelings?

Feelings are something that is important to understand because they are something we all experience every day!

Unsafe secrets must be reported to a "safe grown-up" right way. What does it mean to be a "safe grown-up? Give an example of two you know.

A safe grown-up protects, takes care of, and loves us. They want to keep us safe and healthy. They want whats best for us.

Distracting: Reading a book, drawing or coloring, or writing in a journal.

Mindfulness: Taking the time to yourself. Breathing exercises and can utilize music.

Talking: Asking for help or talking to someone. Talking to someone about how you feel. It can be with anyone (even yourself).

Using Senses: Using your senses to be present in the moment.
