The time, place and social conditions of a story
What is setting?
When the interests builds and the problem, conflict and characters are developed.
What is rising action?
The main character in the story.
What is the protagonist?
The protagonist struggles against another character, usually the antagonist.
What is Person vs. Person?
A comparison between two things using 'like' or 'as'
Example: The rain was coming down so hard it felt like bullets.
What is a simile?
These are what drive the plot of the story, they can be dynamic or static
What is characters?
The turning point in the story, the part with the most tension.
What is the climax?
A character who undergoes significant changes throughout the story.
The protagonist struggles against natural elements in the story.
What is Person vs. Environment?
When hints are given about something that is going to happen later in the story.
What is foreshadowing?
The main problem in the story
What is conflict
When the loose ends of the plot are tied up, the conflict (s) and climax are resolved.
What is falling action?
The character, group of characters or institution that goes against the protagonist.
What is the antagonist?
The protagonist struggles against an organization such as the government.
What is Person vs. Society?
When the authors writing appeals to the senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, sound) of the reader.
What is imagery?

The time period, location and general mood of the story.

The general feeling of a story (Examples: tense, adventurous, suspenseful, heart-felt, humorous)

The protagonist has an internal struggle with something such as mental health or addictions.

An object in the story that has a greater meaning.

Asks one object to become another.
Example: My thoughts were are brewing storm inside of my head.
