What is an accident?
An accident is an event that happens without intention between one or more children.
ex. Child A tripped over carpet edge and hit their chin on the floor.
Name 3 ways we can connect with families at drop off.
1. Give them a warm, welcoming greeting. ex. Good morning, Ben! Hi Mom! Ben, we have some trucks ready on the carpet for you!
2. Ask questions that show parents that you care!
- How was their night?
- How has their morning been?
- How are *you* doing?
3. Get down on the child's level (or up if they are in their parent's arms) and continue conversation face-to-face, engage! Warm and smiling! Encourage children to come to activities, greet friends!

A child has a a temperature of 37.4. What do we do?
This is a low-grade fever.
We can give a courtesy call home and log on an illness form to monitor but child does not have to go home.
What is an incident?
An incident is an event that happens intentionally between one or more children.
ie. Child B took Child A's toy and was bitten in response. Child A had intention to bite Child B.
After a child is in our care, what are the first 3 things we must do as educators?
1. Sign the children in on paper attendance.
2. Sign the children in on the tablet.
3. Do a headcount and confirm total number of children in the classroom; communicate that number with other room partners.
How can we ensure engagement with the children?
1. Facing the children (no backs to children)
2. Join in their play
3. Have conversations about their play
4. Expand their play (add materials and resources and see how they react to the new "environment")

What is our fever temperature?
37.8 (according to our parent handbook)
Child A and B are playing in the block area with wooden blocks. Child C is running through the class, trips and lands in the block area. This results in the wooden blocks flying up, hitting Child A and B in their faces, causing marks. Would this be an accident or incident report?
They would be accident reports.
Child C accidentally tripped which accidentally caused the blocks to hurt Child A and B.
As addressed in our last staff meeting, please name the steps of a safe transition from a child from one classroom to another.
1. Collect all child's belongings and contact sheet.
2. Do a headcount of all remaining children and confirm with room partners what that total is without the transitioning child.
3. Sign child out on the attendance and move them over on Connect to other classroom.
4. Walk child to other classroom; do handover with educators: talk about the morning and how it went, last diaper changes or any other notes. Handover contact documents and belongings.
5. Upon returning to classroom, please headcount your children again and confirm with room partners of any changes and that child has been marked as moved on attendance etc.
You have three hula hoops, some skipping ropes and some balls. What are activities you could facilitate with these materials?

Flip flops, slippers, high heels, open-backed shoes, shoes that have smooth soles and dirty shoes are examples of what?
Improper footwear.
Shoes need to be neat, clean; closed-back, wedges (if wanting to wear something with height), and soles should be slip-resistant.
Name the steps of completing an illness report.
1. Write the child's full name and the date.
2. Check mark what symptoms have been observed ie. vomiting, diarrhea, rash (including location on body), or other ie. fever
3. Write details of illness and the time that it was first observed.
4. If temperature was observed, please write the temperature and the time.
5. Notify the CD or ACD prior to parent being contacted and have them sign and date.
6. Recheck temperature if needed for fever and log the times.
7. Staff signature required at bottom of page, parent signature required at pick-up with the time.
8. Illness report must be reported in Classroom Daily Log book.

What are our next steps?
1. Comfort the children and assess for any injury.
2. With visible marks, get ice and apply.
3. Once children have calmed and have been attended, redirect to new activities, remind about walking feet/model walking feet.
4. Notify families with a heads-up about accidents/ask CD or ACD to notify families.
5. Write accident reports and get CD or ACD to sign off.
6. Educator and parent to sign at the bottom at pick-up.

What are other ways we can connect with families at dismissal?
You are on the playground nearest to the front door of the childcare. You see a family at the door with a young child. They are standing and looking through the glass, turning around and waving at the children, smiling and engaging. What do you do?
1. Ask them to identify themselves.
2. If they are a new family, open the main door and introduce them to the CD or ACD through the office window.
3. If family is attending a tour, please invite them in and ask them to sign in on visitor log. Please make CD or ACD aware that tour has arrived, or other supporting educator.
Please do not give out the door passcode to unidentified individuals. While they may look like a parent and/or family, we cannot assume that they are part of our Brightpath community and need to keep the building safe! :)
Leggings, yoga pants and athletic wear are examples of what?
Improper options for bottoms.
Bottoms can be black jeans, cargo pants, scrub pants etc. Capris or shorts (no shorter than 2" above the knee), and skirts (no shorter than 2" above the knee).
A child has vomited on Wednesday at childcare. They went home at 2pm. When can they return to care?
Vomiting requires dismissal from school for 48-hours or until they are vomit-free without help of medication.
This means that the child could not return until Monday.
What are the steps to filling out an accident/incident report?
1. Child's full name and date and time of incident.
2. Number of children in the space.
3. Write the entire accident/incident.
4. Write actions taken by staff and any additional information.
5. Inform CD and ACD and get them to sign-off on the report.
6. Inform parents and write their contact name and time at the top.
7. Staff and parents to sign at pick-up. *must be same day or next scheduled day, no later*
Name the steps of dismissal.
1. Ensure child has clean clothes and clean diaper/bottom (if pottying).
2. Ensure that all reports are discussed with families at end-of-day and signed.
3. Ensure that required belongings go home with the child.
4. Engage with families about their child's day, including daily recap etc.
5. Sign child out on attendance and Connect.
What are the steps we need to take as we transition off the playground?
1. Clean up the playground toys and resources.
2. Head-count children and do name-to-face using small group attendances.
3. Transition group inside, using head-count and name-to-face at each transition point.
