 Her parents encourage her to isolate herself from dark skinned kids. They taught her that skin color was important and should be around white kids.They also did not teach her embrace or learn about her Caribbean heritage.

An underlying message or the big idea of a story repeated throughout a text. This message could tell more about human nature or life in general. Theme is the message conveyed by a text that applies to multiple other texts; which means it is general and not specific to the text. It cannot be described in a single word and it implies a conflict or an argument about the core idea and usually both.
