A sentence or phrase that you find in a selection to support your answer choice
What is evidence
Synonym for central idea
What is main idea
A belief about something that not everyone may share
opinion
Pieces of information that explain and define or prove the main idea. I always tell you that you need at least three of these in your writing.
What are supporting details
Two words that are opposite in meaning
What are antonyms
Words, phrases, or sentences that help you determine the meaning of an unknown word
What are context clues
A decision we make about what we have read based on what we already know and new information we have learned
What is a conclusion
The problem the characters are trying to solve
What is the plot
The type of writing where you explain something or try to teach someone new things
What is informative writing
Every sentence should start with this.
What is a capital letter?
This is the type of essay you will be asked to write that has more than one paragraph
What is a multi-paragraph essay
The relationship between events or things. One is the result of the other.
What is cause and effect
The photographs, captions, diagrams, charts, tables, etc. that go along with the text to help you understand it

A type of writing where you share your belief about something
What is opinion writing
A word part that cannot stand alone as a word. It is found at the beginning of a word and helps to change its meaning.

The strategy we use when we want to write complete answers to comprehension questions
What is the R.A.C.E. strategy
Use information in a story and prior knowledge to reach a conclusion
What is an inference
The message or lesson the author is trying to share with the reader
What is the theme
This type of writing tells a fictional story or describes a personal experience
What is narrative writing
A word part that cannot stand alone as a word but is added to the end of the word to change its meaning
