What is Abdominal cavity
The upper part of the abdominopelvic cavity, containing the stomach, small intestine, most of the large intestine, appendix, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen.
What is body planes
Imaginary lines drawn through the body at various parts to separate the body into sections.
What is deep
(or internal) Indicates that the structures are located away from the body surface.
What is lateral
Body parts away from the midline or called lateral.
What is pelvic cavity
The lower abdominal cavity, or pelvic cavity, containing the urinary bladder, the reproductive organs, and the last part of the large intestine.
What is abdominal regions
Divisions or sections of the abdominal cavity (either into four quadrants or nine regions) to describe the location of organs and pain.
What is buccal cavity
(or mouth) One of the three small cavities, for the teeth and tongue.
What is distal
Body parts distant from the point of reference.
What is medial
Body parts close to the midline, or plane
What is posterior
Body parts on the back of the body
What is anterior
Body parts in front of the plane, or on the front of the body.
What is caudal
Body parts located near the sacral region of the spinal column (also known as the "tail").
What is dorsal
The dorsal cavity is one long, continuous cavity located on the back of the body. (The term dorsal itself also means relating to the back).
What is midsagittal plane
A sagittal plane that runs down the midline of the body and divides the body into equal halves
What is proximal
Describes the location of the extremities (arms and legs) in relation to the main trunk of the body; body parts close to the point of reference.
What is bilateral
Conditions that affect both sides of the body.
What is cranial
Body parts located near the head.
What is frontal plane
A plane that divides the body into a front section and a back section.
What is nasal cavity
One of the three small cavities, for the nose structures

A plane that divides the body into left and right sections.

Spaces within the body that contain vital organs.
What is cranial cavity
A division of the dorsal cavity, which contains the brain.
