A two-beat diagonal gait of the horse where the diagonal pairs of legs move forward at the same time with a moment of suspension between each beat.
What is a trot/ jog.
A form of horseback riding without a saddle. It requires skill, balance, and coordination, as the rider does not have any equipment to stabilize themselves.
What is bareback riding?
The space between the withers and the top of the leg.

A breed of horse that originated in southwest Asia and is known for their uniquely shaped head and remarkable stamina.
What is an Arabian horse?
A four-beat gait that averages about 4.3 mph.The horse's legs follow this sequence: left hind leg, left front leg, right hind leg, right front leg, in a regular 1-2-3-4 beat.
What is a walk?
A rider's position while mounted, and shows a rider's ability to ride correctly and with effective aids. In horse show competition, the rider, rather than the horse is evaluated.
What are equitation classes (english and western)?
Where the windpipe meets the jaw. Often where the strap of a bridle lays.
What is the throatlatch?
A piece of equipment used to keep the saddle in place on a horse or other animal. It passes under the barrel of the equine, usually attached to the saddle on both sides by two or three leather straps called billets.
What is a girth/ cinch?
Most common horse for horse racing.
What is a thoroughbred?
When a horse moves or runs with bounding steps, medium speed.
What is a lope?
This class reflects the rider's ability to perform in challenges and obstacles that might occur in a natural outdoor path.
What is trail class?
A complex joint in the hind limbs of a horse, the equivalent of a human's knee

The back of the saddle seat, which provides a backrest and support, keeps the rider in the saddle, as well as anchoring the bars of the saddle tree.
What is the Cantle?
A controlled, three-beat gait, faster than in western classes.
what is a canter?
When the horses perform as a group, exhibiting the natural gaits of the walk, trot, and canter, and may also be asked to extend the trot or to perform a hand gallop.

Name of the part of an horse's head immediately behind or right between the ears.

A silver ornament, for use on western saddles, either stamped with a design or inlaid with a stone.
A horse breed originating in the Netherlands. The conformation of the breed resembles that of a light draught horse, but is average sized.
What is a fresian?
A lateral two-beat gait. The two legs on the same side of the horse move forward together, unlike the trot, where the two legs diagonally opposite from each other move forward together. Not common or possible for all horses.
What is a pace?
An advanced pleasure class which tests the skills of both horse and rider, as they execute specific gaits, transitions and movements as requested by the judge.
