Relative Location
Relative location compares two locations, usually using directions
EXAMPLE: Texas is south of Oklahoma
Place
in geography, “place” means the human features or physical features of an area.
Human features: In Oklahoma most people speak English; Islam is the national religion of Saudi Arabia
Physical features: California has a mountain range that runs parallel to its coast; Arizona is very dry
Movement
In geography, movement refers to PEOPLE or THINGS or IDEAS moving FROM ONE LOCATION to a DIFFERENT LOCATION such as migration, travel, trade, or media.
Example: I moved from California to Oklahoma (movement of people); Japan exports many cars to the United States (movement of things); American movies are popular in Asia (movement of ideas)
Human Environment Interaction
This tells us how people CHANGE their environment, how they USE their environment, or REACT to their environment
Example: I wore a winter coat on December 14th because it was snowing; farmers in the desert must irrigate their crops; deforestation is a major problem in many parts of the world
Region
The theme of “regions” tells us how places have similar or common characteristics
Example: Many countries in the Middle East have the COMMON language of Arabic; Africa is considered a DEVELOPING region because there is widespread poverty
