Name an organ that is required for respiration

Lungs

100

The bronchi branch into two smaller tubes called the ___________.

bronchioles
100
Which gas do we breathe in?

Oxygen

100

Name one health condition/illness that is associated with the respiratory system.

asthma, lung cancer, bronchitis, pneumonia  etc.

200

What is the main function of the respiratory system?

To take in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide

200

Which part of the lung is responsible for the actual exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide?

alveoli

200

What gas do we breathe out?

carbon dioxide

What is asthma?

a long-term lung disease that causes airways to tighten and narrow when a person with the condition comes into contact with things such as cigarette smoke, dust or pet dander.

What is the windpipe and what does it do?

Also known as the trachea. It has stiff rings that keep it open. The trachea/windpipe is lined with hairs that filter out dirt

300

What is the name of the tube that takes air into the lungs?

Pharnyx
300

What is the process of taking air into the lungs called?

Inhalation

300

What is bronchitis?

the membranes that line the larger bronchial tubes become inflamed and an excessive amount of mucus is produced. As a result, the person with bronchitis develops a bad cough in order to get rid of the mucus

400

What are alveoli?

Tiny air sacs that are found at the end of bronchioles

400

What is the voice box and how does the voice box work?

he voice box is the uppermost part of the air-only pipe. The voice box contains a pair of vocal cords which vibrate to make sounds

How does air move through your nose? Explain the things that occur.

The nostrils act as the air intake. The nostrils help to bring air into the nose, where it is warmed. In your nose are some tiny hairs which filter out dust and other particles that enter the nose through the breathed air.

What is pneumonia

is an inflammation of the lungs which occurs typically because of an infection with a bacteria or virus. Pneumonia makes breathing difficult because the lungs have to work harder to transfer oxygen into the bloodstream and remove carbon dioxide from the blood

What is the function of the respiratory system?

The lungs and respiratory system help oxygen in the air to be taken into the body. The lungs also help the body to get rid of carbon dioxide in the air breathed out.

The process of taking air into the lungs is inhalation. The process of breathing it out is exhalation.

500

What muscle helps the lungs to breathe in and out?

Diaphram

500

Explain how the diaphragm helps you breathe.

The diaphragm moves downward when we breathe in which makes the chest cavity bigger. When we breathe out, the diaphragm moves upward which forces the chest cavity to get smaller. This action pushes the gases in the lungs up and out of the nose and mouth.

What is lung cancer?

Lung Cancer: is found in the lungs but can easily move from here to other arts of the body. Lung cancer occurs most often in people who have long histories of cigarette smoking. Smoking places stress on your lungs because not only do they have to breathe out the carbon dioxide from our blood, but they also have to breathe out chemicals that shouldn’t be there in the first place.
