List the five main functions (jobs) of the skeletal system
1. Support
2. Shape
3. Movement
4. Protects vital organs
5. Make Blood Cells
1. What is the main function of the respiratory system?
2. What does it give to the body and what does it get rid of?
1. Breathing
2. Gives the body oxygen and gets rid of carbon dioxide (waste)
What is the main function (or job) of the cardiovascular system?
To send oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body through the bloodstream. Also, it helps the body to get rid of waste (carbon dioxide)
What are the three main parts of the nervous system?
The brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
A puppy barks soon after being born. In genetics, what is this an example of?
Innate/Inherited Behavior
What are the two main functions of the muscular system?
Movement and strength
What are the four main parts of the respiratory system?
Nose, Trachea, Lungs, and the diaphragm
What are the three main parts of the cardiovascular system?
The heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries), and blood
What organ is the control center (command center) for the body?
The Brain
If Sally's dad has dark brown eyes and Sally's mom has blue eyes, what eye color is Sally most likely to have?
Brown eyes, because brown eyes is a dominant gene.
What are the three main types of muscles found in the body?
Smooth Muscles - digestive system, respiratory system (involuntary)
Cardiac Muscles - heart muscles that help pump blood (involuntary)
Skeletal Muscles - Help move bones (voluntary)
What causes the lungs to take in oxygen and push out carbon dioxide (C02). What organ helps the lungs to operate?
The diaphragm. When the diaphragm contracts you breathe in and when it relaxes you breathe out.
1. Carries oxygen rich blood away from the heart to all parts of the body?
2. Carries oxygen poor blood from the body back to the heart?
1. Arteries
2. Veins
What are the 5 main parts of the digestive system?
Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, Small Intestine, and Large Intestine.
David's mom has a scar on her left knee from a bicycle accident. Does this mean David will also have a scar on his left knee? Why or why not?
No because a scar is an acquired trait not an inherited trait.
1. Where two or more bones meet together.
2. Cords of connective tissues that attach muscles to bones (you can feel one on the inside of your elbow).
3. Bands of connective tissue that holds bones together.
1. Joints
2. Tendons
3. Ligaments
Which system does the respiratory work with to transport oxygen to all parts of the body?
The Circulatory system. The oxygen travels through the blood stream.
Which two systems does the cardiovascular system work with to send oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body?
The respiratory system and the digestive system
Which body system works with the digestive system to help transport nutrients all throughout the body?
Circulatory System
Red hair and blue eyes are examples of.....
inherited recessive traits
How do muscles move bones? Think about how the biceps and triceps help move the arm.
Muscles work in pairs and pull on bones. One muscle Contracts (or squeezes) and the other one relaxes.
To bend the arm the bicep contracts and the triceps relaxes. The opposite happens to straighten the arm.
After we breathe in oxygen to our lungs, where does the oxygen go?
Oxygen is sent to the heart then it is transported to all parts of the body through the blood stream.
1.How many chamber or rooms are in the human heart? What are the names of the chambers/rooms?
2. Name the four valves instead of the heart.
1. Left Atrium, Left Ventricle, Right Atrium, Right Ventricle.
2. Tricuspid, mitral, aortic, pulmonary
What body system does the nervous system control?
*Daily Double*
All of them
Skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive
Geese fly south for the winter and north for the summer. This is called migration. What is migration and example of in genetics?
innate/inherited behavior
