Explain the cycle that the blood goes through in the body, beginning with the heart.

1. The heart pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs.

2. The lungs oxygenate the blood and send it back to the heart.

3. The heart pumps blood to the rest of the body through the arteries.

4. The arteries branch off into capillaries that take oxygen-rich blood to the cells.

5. The capillaries take oxygen-poor blood to the veins.

6. The veins take oxygen-poor blood back to the heart, and the cycle starts over.
