Ms. Perrault claims that when you multiply, your answer always gets larger. She thought of this : 3 x 6 = 18,   1/8 x 2 = 2/8, which is the same thing as 1/4 (which she says is smaller than 1/8).

She is incorrect though. Explain why.

Ms. Perrault is incorrect because when you multiply by a number that is smaller than 1, your answer gets smaller. For example, if I multiply 1/4 by 1/2, 1/4 x 1/2 = 1/8. 1/2 is less than 1, so the answer gets smaller.
