Particular Particles
Put A Lid On It
Nothing Mean About Being Above Average
100
This is the term we use to describe what all the "stuff" in the universe is made of.

What is matter?

100

TRUE OR FALSE: Adding a lid to a cup does not have an effect on temperature of the liquid inside.

What is false?

100

The definition of mean/average.

What is the middle of  several data points, found by adding them all together and dividing by the number of tests?

200

This is the word we use to describe the measurement of how much matter is in an object.

What is mass?

200

If a container has absolutely 0 spaces for matter to enter or exit, this is what we call it.

What is a closed system?

200

If you take 2 tests, and get a 50 on the first and 100 on the second, this would be your average grade.

What is 75?

300

This state of matter has the most spread out (and fastest moving) particles.

What is gas?

300

These are at least 2 things that a lid on a cup helps with.

What is...

1) Keeping matter in the cup

2) Keeping matter out of the cup

3) Keeping a drink in the cup warm/colder for longer

When Jimothy measures the temp of hot water in a cup over 10 minutes, he finds that the average change in temperature of his data is  -4 degrees celsius. If he decides to measure again after another 5 minutes and sees it dropped 10 degrees, his average temp change will get _______.

What is bigger?

400

Adding this to solid particles can make them spread apart, and taking it away can make them come closer together.

What is heat?

400

TRUE OR FALSE: A lid on a regular cup perfectly seals it, with no exits for the matter inside.

What is false? A regular cup lid has a the hole for the straw and the gap around the edge of the lid.

Trial 1: 2.4

Trial 2: 2.5

Trial 3: 2.6

What is 2.5?

500

TRUE OR FALSE: Once particles have changed from one state of matter to another, they can't change back.

What is FALSE? They can change back and forth.

BONUS: What needs to happen for them to change states?

When Mr. Weird boils water for tea, he uses two pots: one with a lid fully on, and another with a lid that's slightly open. After 10 minutes of boiling, he pours the first pot in Cup A and the second pot into Cup B. This the cup that should have more water, and this is why.

What is Cup A? Cup A has water from the pot that was more sealed, so less steam/vapor escaped the pot. The pot for Cup B is OPEN SYSTEM, which means it has space for matter to exit from.
