What is the equation for Force?

F = ma

100

How is every object drawn?

Box, Square, rectangle.

100

What are forces measured in?

Newtons

100

What is Newton's First Law?

An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

200

How do you find acceleration given Force and mass?

a = F/m

200

All vectors must be drawn with _____. All vectors should be ________.

Arrows

Proportional

200

Gravity is _______.

Constant

200

What is another name for Newton's First Law?

The Law of Inertia

300

How do you find Net Force?

By adding together the vertical forces, and then adding together the horizontal forces. NEVER add a vertical force with a horizontal force.

300

How are surfaces shown?

Flat Lines

300

List 5 different forces.

Gravitational, Normal, Applied, Frictional, Air Resistance.

300

What is Newton's Second Law?

The acceleration of an object depends upon the net force and the mass of an object.

400

What is the equation for friction? The coefficient of friction?

FFrict = mu * FN

mu= FFrict / FN

400

What are the correct labels for Gravity, Normal Force, Applied Force, Friction, and Air Resistance

Gravity: Weight, W, FG

Normal: N, FN, Normal, Reaction Force

Applied: FA, Applied Force

Friction: FFrict

Air Resistance: Air Resistance

400

What is Net Force?

All the horizontal forces added together and all the vertical forces added together. If there is no net force, there is no acceleration.

400

What is Newton's Third Law?

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

500

If there is no vertical acceleration, how can you find normal force given only gravity?

If there is no vertical acceleration, then normal force and gravity should be the same. No net force, no acceleration. There is no vertical acceleration, so there should be a net force of zero.

500

Where should the vector for "Weight" always be drawn from?

The middle of the box with the arrow going downward. Gravity is always pushing the middle of an object.

500

What is a balanced force? An unbalanced force?

When two forces are of equal magnitude and in opposite directions, they balance each other, creating a balanced force. When two forces are not equal in magnitude, they do not balance each other out, so they create an unbalanced force.

A person is standing on the ground. Using Newton's Third Law, why aren't the ground or the person moving?

The person is pushing down on the ground and the ground is pushing the person up. Neither the person nor the ground is moving because they are both pushing with equal force. No net force, no acceleration.
