They were waterfalls that prevented people from travelling on them. They had to travel on land.

Greece is a peninsula which is land that is surrounded by water on three sides. They can use this water to fish, travel, and trade. 

Greece also has a ton of mountains which made it difficult for travel and communication. This lead to the development of city-states.

The Greek government went through three phases: They were ruled by the Aristocracy (the rich families made the decisions), then they were ruled by Tyrants, and finally Greece became a democracy (the people made the decisions).

Greeks contributed to theater (Comedies and tragedies) 

They also contributed to Architecture by creating buildings with columns and pillars.

Pyramids were huge structures with four sloping triangle shaped sides. They were important because they were used as tombs to bury their dead (pharaohs).

Hammurabi's Code was the first set of written laws. These laws were written on tablets so the people knew what was expected of them. If they did not follow a law, they would be punished in the way that they committed the crime. 

Example: If you stole, your hand would be cut off. 

"An eye for an eye."

Keeping track of time: Astronomers predicted when rivers would flow 

Math: Found solutions to their problems. Measured stones to build pyramids. They figured out how many days are in the year by following the sirius star.

Medicine: They knew a lot about the body because of surgery and herbal-ism.

Siddhartha Gautama created Buddhism. 

They followed the eight fold path which is also called "the middle way".

If they followed the eight fold path, and were a good person during their life, they would achieve Nirvana which is a lasting peace. 

Missionaries: Spread their religion to others.

They shared similar beliefs of the Hindus.
