After September 11th, a cloud of dust covered NYC for over 1 month. During that time, scientists saw a reduction in trees in Central Park by 5%. Write a claim, evidence, and justification explaining why you think this occurred?
I think that the dust cloud blocked the sun from being able to reach the trees. Since trees require sunlight as one of the reactants in order to complete photosynthesis and make glucose, the plant wouldn't be able to grow properly. Therefore it cannot go through photosynthesis and make food for itself to use in cellular respiration and energy, causing them to die.
