Why do both plants and animals need respiration? Use evidence.
Since photosynthesis doesn't create energy as it is not in the products of the equation, plants still need to make energy. Both plants and animals need respiration to create energy for life functions. The difference is therefore where the source of food comes from - plants make their own, animals need to ingest food from the environment.

It increases since you must breathe harder during exercise to provide the muscles with enough ATP. By intaking more oxygen, more CO2 will come out since both sides of an equation have to be balanced. Therefore, CO2 will be increased as evident through the rate of respiration.

I think that the dust cloud blocked the sun from being able to reach the trees. Since trees require sunlight as one of the reactants in order to complete photosynthesis and make glucose, the plant wouldn't be able to grow properly. Therefore it cannot go through photosynthesis and make food for itself to use in cellular respiration and energy, causing them to die.

Stacy had lung cancer and had to get one of her lungs removed. Why would this affect her cellular respiration/energy production? Give evidence.
Stacy will not be able to produce as much ATP or may be requiring a lot more work to intake the amount of oxygen she needs. Since the lungs provide oxygen to be used in the cells to produce energy, having one lung instead of two would cause less oxygen to be absorbed in the body. Therefore, Stacy would either need oxygen in a tank or would have a very high rate of respiration and heartbeat in order for the oxygen to get where it needs to go.
