Will there be any talking during the test?

No talking. The test administrator will briefly talk to give out directions at the beginning.

What happens if I'm absent for one of the STAAR testing days?

You will make up the section of the test you missed when you return to school on a make-up day.

What do I do when I finish my test?

Once you complete testing, you will be allowed to read or rest (nap) quietly. Bring a book.

Can I grab a book from your shelf after I finish my test?

No. You can only read the book YOU bring to the testing room.

What is considered a healthy  breakfast?

Something nutritious, not too sweet or too heavy.

A book to read AFTER the test. I will provide everything else.

Can I nap during the test?

NO NAPPING DURING TESTING! You can nap after you have completed your test.

What happens if I get nervous right before the test begins?

Between 8:00 and 9:00 pm.

Will I be allowed to use my cell phone or airpods during testing?

No use of personal electronic devices such as phones and airpods are allowed during testing.

Can I wear pajamas on STAAR Test day?

No PJs, toys, caps, blankets, stuffed animals, or house shoes!  Normal dress code is still in effect. 

NO hoods are allowed! You will be asked to remove them if they are on!

Can I start talking once my class has finished the test?

We will remain in testing mode in our testing locations until an announcement is made.  Even if you or your room are finished, we will still remain in testing mode.  (no talking, phones, electronics, etc…)

Where can you eat your breakfast the morning of STAAR?

Students will eat grab and go at the testing room door- throw away trash before entering the testing room

How much time will I have for each section of the test?

You may have the entire school day to complete the test.

What is the most important thing I need to do on test day?

Listen and follow directions carefully. Take your time and read the questions and answers carefully.

Are students allowed to use the restroom during the test?

Yes, students will have to sign out and go to the restroom ONE at a time. Students will have to be silent.

Where will I record my answers?

This is an online test so every student will use their chromebook to complete the test.

What do I do with my cellphone/ apple watch / airpods?

  • You’ll be asked to turn them off, take them off, and give to the test administrator. – We will give them back!! :)


    • OR

  • You CAN place them in your backpack!!

  • Phones will be returned after Dr. Hayes makes an announcement that testing has concluded.

What type of questions will I have on the test?

Multiple choice (This includes multi-select, drop-down options, and Part A / Part B questions), short constructed response, and a writing component through the extended constructed response.
