Find the Highest Common Factor (HCF) of 60 and 96.

Factors of 60 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60

Factors of 96 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 19, 32, 48, 96

HCF(60,96) = 12

Find the value of a cone, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a scoop of strawberry ice cream:

3x3x3=27, so Cone = 3.

2 cones + 2 vanilla = 10. Since cones = 3, 2x3 + 2 vanilla = 10, so Vanilla = 2

2 cones + 2 vanilla + strawberry = 11. Since 2 cones + 2 vanilla = 10, Strawberry = 1.
OR
3 cones + 2 vanilla + 2 strawberry = 15. Since cones = 3 and vanilla =2, 3x3 + 2x2 + 2 strawberry = 15, so Strawberry = 1.

One night, Chester and his brother Raph decide to have some fun at their father's lolly shop. In the shop, they find 7 tins each containing 135 jellybeans, 9 packets of 121 M&Ms, 12 jars of 70 smarties and 32 packets of 5 liquorice sticks.

Find the total number of lollies that Chester and Raph find that night.

Total = Jellybeans + Choc Buds + Smarties + Liquorice

= (7 x 135) + (9 x 121) + (12 x 70) + (32 x 5)

= 945 + 1089 + 840 + 160 = 3034

Chester and Raph find 3034 lollies that night.

Tahlia runs laps of a circuit in 4 minutes. Luka runs laps of the same circuit in 3 minutes. Ned can run laps of the same circuit in 6 minutes. They all start together on the starting line and run a race that goes for 36 minutes. Find the Lowest Common Multiple to determine when they will first cross over the starting line together (other than at the start)?

Tahlia = Multiples of 4 = 4, 8 ,12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36.

Luka = Multiples of 3 = 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36.

Ned = Multiples of 6 = 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36.

LCM(3,4,6) = 12

They will all cross over the starting line after 12 minutes.

Michael has 1-third of a cake. Gabe has 1-quarter of a cake. Tom has 1-fifth of a cake. Tilda has 1-sixth of a cake. Dutchy has half of what Tom has. How much cake is leftover for everyone else?

Michael + Gabe + Tom + Tilda + Dutchy =

1/3 + 1/4 + 1/5 + 1/6 + (1/2 xx 1/5)

=20/60 + 15/60 + 12/60 + 6/60

=53/60

So 7/60 of the cake remains for everyone else.
