Her early attempts to leave this world are similar to how James’s ghost haunts ETA, except each wants to leave their own respective realm for the other. While it may seem far-fetched to align Joelle with Death, Wallace’s vast novel invites interpretations by denying the reader concrete answers, and welcomes the blurring of the living and the dead with the lingering presence of James Incandenza. "To put it simply: Stranger Things has happened. Few shows in the last year have blown up the way this series has, taking Netflix by supernatural storm almost overnight. While the child actors and 80’s zeitgeist have been the center of most of the hype, there are many smaller elements of the show’s genius that might go unnoticed simply because they are so well-woven into the Duffer Brothers’ masterpiece.
