When a patron picks up this type of hold, you need to check the item out on Koha and demagnetize it--is it ILL or Prospector?
Prospector!
"How do I check out a book?"
We answer! You should be able to explain this process to a patron.
When should you interfile books?
As soon as you have the time too. Ideally we want no piles on the shelves.
"I have two books checked out that are due tomorrow. Can you renew them for me?"
1. Verify the patron's information. Verify their phone number, address (or WB), email, and ID number.
2. Check the "Renew" box for the books that are going to be renewed. Make sure that there are still enough renewals remaining.
3. Click "Renew or check in selected items".
**This process gets messed up a lot lately because the system is weird, so if you have the time and remember, maybe write down the patron's book's barcodes in case the books get checked in.
These items have paperwork on the cover and do NOT use Koha. ILL or Prospector?
ILL
"I want to reserve a classroom for 4th week."
Welcome Desk! Welcome Desk and Jenn Sides (Library Operations Manager) have information on the physical library space, rooms, events, etc.
Would PN1998.3 V46 A5 2016 be interfiled on the "M&P - PI" shelf or the "PJ - PQ" shelf?
PJ - PQ
"Hi, I'm trying to Prospector a book but it didn't work. It said that my ID is unknown? Can you help me?"
1. Verify patron's information to access their account.
2. Make sure that the patron's Tiger number and ID match what they have.
3. Check if their is anything else wrong with their account.
4. If you have time, it is best to try and request the book for them to see if their account is working correctly.
5. **If anything seems really weird or the desk is really busy, you can always ask the patron to hold while you get a supervisor to help them.
You're trying to check in a book but you get the message "No item with barcode." What do you do?
Don't panic! Don't mess with the item anymore and let Meg or one of the supervisors know. It could possibly be an improperly processed Prospector or an ILL missing its paperwork.
"Can you help me find a book on rafflesia arnoldii? The corpse flower?"
Research Desk! We can help people with specific books, but if someone is still beginning their research or has a large/vague topic, Research Desk is there to help them narrow down and find resources.
When a patron can't find a book, what is the first thing you do?
Pull up the item on Koha and check its availability. If it is available, check the location and collection, then the last time it was seen by the system. The patron could possibly have been looking in the wrong area.
"I'm trying to place a book on hold for my class next block but it's not working. Can you put it on hold for me?"
No, we cannot place holds on books that are currently available in the library. This is to try and keep all resources fair and equally accessible to people.
If someone says they have an exception or are a professor, then it is better to get a supervisor to handle the situation.
How do you check in a returned Prospector?
1. Check in the book.
2. Open the Prospector tab and pull up the book.
3. Open "Manage Request" and put the "Item in transit".
4. Place in the back to be bundled.
"Do we have any movies in Dutch?"
Technically a Research Desk question. IF you have the time and are familiar enough with our catalog's advanced search, there is a way to find this answer, but you are not expected to know.
We want you to prioritize and expect you to know how to do the duties that are in your job description. Whether you answer other questions depends on your knowledge and comfortability.
In what order are the new Books interfiled and shelved in? Hint: There's a sticky note that tells you!
Folio, Oversize, Art Folio, Art (N's), then everything else!
"Hello! Does the library have Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse? I tried looking it up online but all I could find were reviews of the movie and other articles."
A patron comes up to the desk and asks to renew their ILL books. What do you do?
We are unable to renew ILL books or access the ILL system in any way. The patron will have to directly contact tuttill@coloradocollege.edu. The email should be on the paperwork, and using it they can talk to the ILL coordinator about renewing their book.
"Where is the CC Collection?"
It is a part of Special Collections. This is something that doesn't come up often, so don't hesitate to ask one of the supervisors.
Where do we interfile Reference and Thesis books?
On the shelves under the Leisure books.
"Hello. I'm a UCCS professor and I know that the library is currently closed to the public, but we're going to start renovating our library next year and I wanted to know if I could come in to visit and kind of talk about the renovation you all went through. We'd like to know how your space has worked and if there is any advice you could possibly share. When would I be able to come in?"
Just get a supervisor. Then your supervisor will most likely get another supervisor, and then we'll get Steve.
