Fill in the blank.

The _____ of a three-dimensional figure is the measure of space it occupies. It is measured in cubic units such as cubic centimeters (cm^3) or cubic inches (in^3).

Volume!

Formula is Volume = Base x Height.

Base formula = Length x Width.

What is the mean of the following data set?

5, 8, 12, 17, 12, 14, 6, 8, 12, and 10

Mean = all added up divided by 10 = 104/10 = 10.4

100

What is the difference between an expression and an equation?

An expression is a combination of numbers and variables while an equation is made up of two expressions connected by an equal sign that looks for a solution.

Determine 5% of 300 by expressing the percent as a fraction.

5% = 5/100 or 1/20.

1/20 of 300 = 1/20 x 300.

= (1 x 15) / (1 x 1) = 15/1 = 15.

so 5% of 300 is 15.

2,874 grams is >, <, >=, <= or = to 2 kilograms?

2.874kg is greater than (>) 2kg.

200

True or False. A hexagon is a quadrilateral.

False. Quadrilaterals only have 4 sides. Hexagons have 6 sides.

200

What is the mode of the following data set?

5, 8, 12, 17, 12, 14, 6, 8, 12, and 10

The mode is 12 because it appears more frequently than 8.

Describe what property must be used first.

Jack is married to number 3 and lives with his 1st mother in-law in the same apartment while his friend, number 9, is living alone. Jack doesn't want to be married anymore but cannot leave until something is done to his in law. What is the first step? Write down an equation based on the above.

3J + 1 = 9  Equation.

We must remove the 1 from the left, so we will use the subtraction property. 3J +1-1 = 9-1

Now we have 3J = 8 alone and can use the division property of equality. 3J/3 = 8/3.

Final solution: J = 8/3.

Drew wants to buy exercise equipment that costs $140 and the sales tax is 5.75%. What is the total cost of the equipment?

1. Add sales tax to the regular price.

First determine the sales tax. Let t represent sales tax.

2. Formula: part = percent x whole.

                       t = 0.0575 x 140.

                       t = 8.05.

3. Add sales tax to regular price.

$8.05 + $140 = $148.05

Calculate the sales tax and the total cost, including 6.25% sales tax of a $120.00 costume?

Income is a financial gain from capital or labor. Payments for labor or services are called wages. Income tax is a tax on the net income of an individual or business. Federal withholding tax is one type of income tax. To calculate, express the income as a decimal then multiple by the amount of earned wages.

6.25% of $120.00 = 0.0625 x $120.00

                           = $7.50

now add the sales tax to the cost of the purchase. $7.50 + $120.00 = $127.50.

300

What is the median of the following data set?

5, 8, 12, 17, 12, 14, 6, 8, 12, and 10

The median is the middle value of the data set when it is arranged in ascending order. Since we have 10 values in the set, the median is the mean (average) of the fifth and sixth values.

Likewise, you can also re-arrange it least to greatest.

5,6,8,8,10,12,12,12,14,17

5th value + 6th value = 10 + 12 divided by 2 = 11.

Solve 16 = 0.25n.

n = 64.

True or false: A scale expressed as a ratio without units in simplest form is called the scale factor.

True!

5 grams is >, <, >=, <= or = to 3 kilograms?

5 grams is less than (<) 3 kg because 3kg = 3,000g.

Simple Interest formula: I = prt

network = assets = liabilities

Ex: Kedron depositis $1,000 into an account that earns 4% simple interest each year. Calculate the interest he earns after 3 years.

I = prt

I = 1,000 x 0.04 x 3

I = 120

Kedron will earn $120 in simple interest.

400

What is the range of the following data set?

5, 8, 12, 17, 12, 14, 6, 8, 12, and 10

IQR = Q3 - Q1

or simpler terms: big number - small number:

17 - 5 = 12. Range is 12.

400

Review the table. Are the ratios equivalent?

Time (mins.) | Distance (ft.)

0 ------------------ 0

2 ------------------ 6

4 ------------------ 12

6 ------------------ 18

2/6 = 6/18

1/3 = 1/3

ratios are equivalent.

7 qt = how many cups?

Remember:

1 pt = 2 cup
1 qt = 2 pt

7qt = 28 cups because:

4cups = 1qt so 7qt x 4 = 28.

Is this a statistical question, yes or no?

How long is each girls hair in your class?

Yes, because "each girls hair" means that we can quantify or collect data from.

You have 5 cards and the following information. Fill in the missing blanks.

5, _ , _, _, _

Mean: _, Median: 7, Mode:_, Range: 6

3 possible combinations.

5, _ , 7, _ , 11

Range backwards: 6+5=11

Median = 7, Mean = 8, last two must = 17 so it can be 10+7 or 11+6 or 5+12. If 5,7 or 11; mode will be different.

500

Write the equation of the line that is represented by the table.

X ----------- Y

0 ----------- 0

1 ------------8

2-------------16

3--------------24

1. Determine the rate of change as x increases by 1, y increases by 8 each time.

Rate of change is constant, so slope rises 8/runs 1 or 8/1 = 8.

2. Determine y-intercept. When x=0, y =0. So y-intercept (b) = 0.

3. slope intercept formula: y = mx + b

"y = 8x" is our equation.

500

True or false. The diameter (d) of a circle is half of the radius (r). The radius (r) of a circle is twice of its diameter (d).

Formula: d = 2r , r = (d)/(2).

False. Radius is 1/2 of diameter. Diameter is double the size of the radius.
