Explain the difference between fermentation and cellular respiration. When are each of them used?

Cellular respiration is when cells break down glucose and other molecules from food in the presence of oxygen, releasing energy. This constantly happens in our cells. During fermentation, cells release energy from food without using oxygen. This gives less energy. One example is when yeast ferments bread dough or alcohol.

Cellular respiration and photosynthesis are like opposite processes. Photosynthesis uses light energy, carbon dioxide, and water to make glucose and oxygen. Cellular respiration does the opposite and uses glucose and oxygen to make carbon dioxide, water, and energy.
